Why Apapa-Oshodi Expressway Construction is Delayed…Firm Accuse FG of N1.6billion Debt

LAGOS: Fresh facts have emerged as to the real reasons why the construction of the major Apapa-oshodi expressway have been delayed for the past one year, as the construction company in charge of the road, Borini Porono Construction Limited has said that the nonpayment of  outstanding debts of N1.6billion by the Federal Government is the reason for the delay.

Director of the company, Mr. Nastari Claudio disclosed this at a joint inspection visit carried out on the road today in Lagos by the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar and  his counterpart at the Ministry of Works, Alhaji Pateh Alli.

According to the director, a total of N1.6 million is yet to be paid by the federal government; and it is only the adequate provision of funds that will accelerate the completion of the dilapidated portion of the road.

Claudio told the two ministers who were accompanied by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Professor Sylvester Monye, that fund is the major factor for the delay in the completion of the project.

‘’we are asking for the provision of enough funds in order speed the pace of work at the site ,though we are working but of course fund is an issue’’.

‘’ The project would be completed in May 2013” he said.
