Orange and Nashua Mobile partnership extends French group’s SA footprint

JOHANNESBURG – French telecommunications group Orange has signed a partnership with Nashua Mobile that will enable it to expand its activities in South Africa.

Through the partnership, Orange customers travelling to South Africa will be able to, among other things, replace their SIM card in case of a lost or stolen phone, and activate international services, at some of Nashua stores.

The partnership forms part of Orange’s plans to expand in South Africa through several initiatives that the group plans to launch in phases. In early 2013, it launched a subsidiary called Orange Horizons that aims to seek new business opportunities in countries where the group is not already present as a mass market telecoms provider.

Orange and Nashua Mobile partnershipNashua Mobile CEO Mark Taylor said “this innovative partnership” would benefit locals as well as foreign customers of Orange.

“Nashua Mobile has more than 150 retail outlets and more of those stores will roll out the Orange brand over time. The company’s focus is on saving its customers time and money, so cutting communication costs when they travel abroad is a key part of that goal. The advice and solutions available from Nashua Mobile will give Orange clients landing in South Africa or South Africans heading into Orange territory the best and cheapest possible services,” Mr Taylor said.

Orange Horizons CEO Sébastien Crozier said Orange “already offers to its roaming customers great deals across its entire footprint, but we will now be able to offer services in a physical space for French and Botswanan customers visiting South Africa, where the group is not present as an operator”.

He said through this partnership, South Africans would be able to better prepare their trips abroad by subscribing to services offered by Orange France or Orange Botswana before they departed for their destination. The companies plan to add more countries over time.

The first Nashua Mobile stores to incorporate Orange products and an in-store Orange-brand presence will be in Sandton City in Johannesburg, Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria and both Icon Centre and Canal Walk in Cape Town. All products will also be available through the online store for travellers not passing through these areas.
