There Is Need to Revitalise Agric Sector – NSE
LAGOS – The president Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr. Mustafa Shehu, has stated that the agricultural sector is experiencing a decline and seriously needs to be revived.
During a pre-press briefing of its forthcoming international engineering conference and annual general meeting, Shehu lamented that agriculture used to be a major source of our national income and provided employment for about 70 per cent of the Nigerian population. He said it was sad that fortunes of the sector had experienced some decline over the years, saying everything must be done to revive the sector.
“The sector needs fresh impetus to enable us achieve food security for our citizens as a responsible nation and committed signatory to conventions of the United Nations amongst other that advances the fundamental right to adequate food,” he added. Engr. Shehu disclosed that about 5,000 delegates were expected to participate at the conference, assuring the conference would increase economic activities in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
The conference which starts on Tuesday will have President Goodluck Jonathan as its special guest of honour.
