BREAKING: Edo APC Youths Seize Party Headquarters Amid Governorship Primary Dispute
Furious youths and women have stormed the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Benin, Edo State, demanding the immediate removal of the state executives following Saturday’s contentious governorship primary election.
The primary, marred by controversy, saw the emergence of three purported winners, sparking outrage among party members.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, serving as the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, declared Dennis Idahosa as the victor, while Stanley Ugboaja, the returning officer, announced Monday Okpebholo as the winner. Adding to the confusion, Ojo Babatunde, representing returning officers from various local governments, proclaimed Anamero Dekeri as the triumphant candidate.
Led by the party’s youth leader, Tony Adun, popularly known as Kabaka, the agitated crowd forcibly entered the premises, seizing furniture, bags of rice, and other equipment. Their intention: to occupy the building for seven days in protest.
Adun, speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, expressed their dissatisfaction with the conduct of the party officials during the primary, alleging bias and manipulation.
“It is evident that the current party executives in the state no longer serve the interests of the APC. Therefore, it is imperative for them to step down,” Adun declared passionately.
“We stand in solidarity with Dennis Idahosa, the rightful nominee chosen by the party. We urge all members to rally behind Idahosa’s candidacy for the upcoming governorship election in September,” he added.
The demonstrators vowed to remain steadfast until their demand for the dissolution of the executive committee is met, even declaring their intent to camp at the headquarters for the next seven days, cooking, eating, and sleeping on-site.
The upheaval underscores the deep-seated tensions within the Edo APC, raising concerns about the party’s unity and stability in the lead-up to the crucial gubernatorial election.

Some passengers said they heard a loud bang before the train jolted violently, throwing several occupants off their seats.
Eyewitnesses said the sudden impact caused confusion inside the train compartments, with some passengers sustaining cuts and bruises after hitting seats and metal fittings.
Initial reports suggested that the Abuja-bound train might have collided with another train along the corridor, forcing rail operations to pause temporarily while authorities assessed the situation.
A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the incident but declined to give full details, noting that he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter.
One of the passengers, Sada Malumfashi, shared his experience on social media shortly after leaving the train.
He described the moment as frightening, stating that the loud sound and sudden stop caused many passengers to be flung from their seats.
He said the train remained stationary for about 30 minutes before the journey resumed slowly toward Kubwa, located on the outskirts of Abuja.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed the development and said an official statement would be issued.
Authorities are yet to disclose the exact cause of the derailment or the full extent of injuries as investigations continue.
