In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Onanuga revealed that the responsibilities of the scrapped ministries will be redistributed under new structures designed to streamline governance.
The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs will be replaced by a newly formed Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee all regional development commissions.
These include the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North East Development Commission (NEDC), North West Development Commission, and the South West Development Commission.
This move centralizes regional development efforts under one ministry, signaling a shift towards a more integrated approach to addressing regional challenges.
The National Sports Commission will now take over the functions previously managed by the Ministry of Sports Development.
This restructuring is aimed at optimizing the governance of sports and improving the coordination of sporting activities across the country.
In another key change, the Ministry of Tourism has been merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, aligning efforts to promote tourism, culture, and the creative industries as part of Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy.
