President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Lagos after a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where he held high-level talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.

The President arrived in the early hours of Friday at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

He was received by top government officials, including Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other party stakeholders.

Shortly after his arrival, Tinubu proceeded with activities marking Eid-el-Fitr, joining Muslim faithful for prayers at the Eid ground in Dodan Barracks, Lagos.

In his Sallah message, the President called on Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to sustain the virtues of Ramadan, including piety, sacrifice, unity, and compassion.

He stressed the need for citizens to continue promoting peace and togetherness across the country.

During his visit to the UK, Tinubu met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where both leaders discussed key issues such as trade, economic cooperation, climate change, and security.

A major highlight of the trip was an agreement between Nigeria and the UK to refurbish two major ports in Lagos in a deal valued at £746 million, a move expected to boost economic growth and infrastructure development.

The President also attended a state banquet hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its long-standing relationship with the UK.

Describing the visit as “significant and productive,” Tinubu noted that Nigeria remains committed to building partnerships rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and sustainable development.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has congratulated Muslim faithfuls in the state on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by his Spokesperson, the Governor acknowledged “the devotion, and discipline demonstrated throughout Ramadan,” noting that the holy month represents “not only abstinence but a deep commitment to compassion, social justice, and community service.”

Governor Adeleke gave “a strong assurance to the Muslim community in Osun State that his administration remains attentive to their aspirations, values their contributions, and will continue to protect their rights, support their institutions, and ensure fair inclusion in governance and development initiatives.”

“Osun under my leadership will continue to be a state where religious harmony is preserved and where no group feels marginalised,” assuring that “policies and programmes of government will always reflect equity, sensitivity, and respect for all faiths accordingly.” – Governor Adeleke emphasized

His Excellency further noted that “the enduring lessons of Ramadan are critical to sustaining Osun’s shining light.” He urged Muslim faithful to “sustain these virtues beyond the fasting period and to continue to play active roles in strengthening peace and social cohesion across communities.”

Addressing Muslim Ummahs of the state, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed “his administration’s resolve to deliver people-focused governance, deepen grassroots engagement, and expand opportunities for all,” stressing that “the government remains committed to improving welfare, infrastructure, and economic prospects for citizens.”

He also called on the Muslim Ummah to “use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for Osun Local Government against political saboteurs and power mongers,” while encouraging citizens to “celebrate peacefully, support one another, and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.”

“As we celebrate this sacred festival, I assure our Muslim brothers and sisters that your government stands with you, listens to you, and works for you accordingly,” the Governor stated.

The Middle East is on high alert after Israel confirmed it had killed Iran’s Intelligence Minister, Esmail Khatib, in a precision strike, marking another major escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

Israeli officials announced that their military has been authorised to target any senior Iranian leader deemed a threat.

“We will continue to thwart them and hunt them all down,” said Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz.

The Israeli Defense Forces have also vowed to pursue Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has remained largely out of public view since succeeding his father.

Brigadier General Effie Defrin added, “We will track him down, find him, and neutralize him.”

In response, Tehran promised decisive retaliation for the killing of Khatib and other top officials, including Ali Larijani, Iran’s National Security Council Secretary. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called the killings a cowardly act and warned that Iran’s response would be resolute.

“The pure blood of this great martyr… will be a source of honour, power and national awakening against global arrogance,” said Iranian army chief Amir Hatami.

Iran further threatened attacks on energy infrastructure across the Gulf after Israeli strikes targeted its largest gasfield, South Pars, which it shares with Qatar.

The attacks marked the first direct strike on Iran’s energy sector since the war began, prompting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to issue a stern warning.

“The fuel, energy, and gas infrastructures of those who attacked Iran will be burned and turned to ashes at the earliest opportunity,” said a spokesperson for IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the conflict’s global consequences would affect everyone, regardless of wealth, religion, or race.

He noted that an increasing number of international voices, including European and US officials, view the war against Iran as unjust.

Meanwhile, the US President urged allies to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil and gas passage, as Iran has effectively closed the strait, sending global oil prices soaring.

NATO members are reportedly discussing ways to reopen the waterway.

The conflict has already taken a human toll. Iranian missile strikes killed two people near Tel Aviv, while Israeli and US strikes reportedly killed and injured dozens in multiple locations across Iran. With hundreds displaced and energy markets disrupted, the war continues to send shockwaves through the Middle East and beyond.
