2024 Grammy Nominations: Nigerian Artists Make History

Published

on

Nigerian artists, Burna Boy, Olamide, and Ayra Starr achieved significant milestones after the 66th Grammy Awards nominations were revealed.

Burna Boy, with four nominations, now holds the record for the Nigerian artist with the most Grammy nominations. He has a total of 10 nominations already.

In another noteworthy feat, Burna Boy has secured the distinction of being the first Nigerian artist to receive Grammy nominations for five consecutive years (2019-2023).

Additionally, his track ‘Sittin’ On Top of The World’ is the pioneering African song nominated in the Rap category, specifically in the Best Melodic Rap Performance.

The track ‘Sittin’ On Top of The World’ by Burna Boy will compete for the honor alongside Doja Cat’s ‘Attention,’ Drake & 21 Savage’s ‘Spin Bout U,’ SZA’s ‘Low,’ and Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Olamide has etched his name in history as the first Nigerian rapper to secure a Grammy nomination.

Olamide and Asake’s joint effort, ‘Amapiano,’ clinched a nomination in the newly established Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys. The track faces competition from Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water.’

Adding to the accolades, Ayra Starr, aged 21, has become the youngest Nigerian to secure a Grammy nomination.

Her chart-topping single ‘Rush’ is in the running for the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammys.

The 2023 Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles ended in disappointment for Burna Boy, who left without a win.

Tems, with her contribution to ‘Wait for U’ by Future featuring Drake, claimed the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category.

Adding to the setbacks, Burna Boy missed out on two more awards. South Africa’s Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode won the Best Global Music Performance, surpassing Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last.’

Furthermore, the Best Global Music Album award went to Japan’s Masa Takumi, leaving Burna Boy’s “Love Damini” unrewarded.

Diddy Caught On Tape Assaulting Cassie Ventura [Video]

Published

on

Surveillance footage has revealed Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly engaging in a physical altercation with his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel Century City in Los Angeles.y

The video was obtained by CNN on Friday.

The video captures Ventura walking briskly down a hallway, carrying a purse and a small duffel bag, while Combs, wearing only socks and a towel around his waist, is seen running after her.

In the footage, the rapper, who is currently facing sexual abuse allegations from multiple women, is seen encountering Ventura at the elevator lobby.

He allegedly grabs her by the back of the neck, throws her to the ground, kicks her, takes her bags, and kicks her again before dragging her back toward the hallway.

Combs then retrieves Ventura’s bags and returns to the hotel room, while she uses a hotel phone by the elevators.

He later appears to shove her into a corner and throws an object at her off-camera.

According to Ventura’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, the newly revealed video reinforces the disturbing and predatory behavior exhibited by Mr. Combs.

He said “gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

Ventura, who began her on-and-off relationship with Combs in the early 2000s when she was 19 and he was 37, settled her lawsuit against him just one day after filing it last November.

The suit alleged repeated physical and sexual abuse over more than a decade.

At the time, Combs “vehemently” denied the allegations, as stated by his attorney, Ben Brafman.

Following the settlement, Brafman emphasized that the undisclosed agreement did not constitute an admission of wrongdoing on Combs’ part.

Brafman did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment regarding the footage published by CNN.

Following Ventura’s public allegations, numerous other women have come forward with similar accusations against Combs, all of which he has denied.

In March, Homeland Security agents conducted raids on multiple properties associated with the rapper.

While the exact nature of the raids remains unclear, a senior federal law enforcement official informed CNN that the team responsible for the raids typically handles cases related to human trafficking crimes.

American rapper 50 Cent has asserted that his counterpart, Jay-Z, is keeping a low profile amidst ongoing legal troubles involving Diddy’s sexual assault cases.

In remarks made by 50 Cent, he suggests that the renowned rapper, known for hits like “Young Forever,” will remain out of the public eye until Diddy’s legal issues are resolved.

Jay-Z, the head of Roc Nation, has noticeably been less visible in recent years, with occasional high-profile appearances such as at the Grammys or alongside his spouse, Beyoncé.

50 Cent, however, insists that Jay-Z’s absence from public view is a deliberate move in response to Diddy’s legal challenges.

Taking to his Instagram account, 50 Cent stated: “Jay is laying low; he won’t be seen until this situation with Puff clears up. No social gatherings, no public outings. It’s all on me; I’m out here.”

Reports reported that Diddy, a close associate of Jay-Z, is currently facing multiple allegations of sexual assault, including accusations of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a record producer.

The situation has prompted various reactions within the entertainment industry, with concerns raised about the impact on Diddy’s reputation and the broader implications for those associated with him.

In light of these developments, Jay-Z’s decision to maintain a low profile underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for caution among his peers.
