8,000 Nigerians Petition Brymo From Winning 8th AFRIMA Award
Brymo

Nigerians have signed a petition calling for the disqualification of Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, better known as Brymo, from the 8th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) due to his contentious remarks about the Igbo community.

The singer had been criticized for saying that the possibility of Igbo presidency would only be an unrealistic idea, due to the movement for the independence of Biafra.

Following criticisms from fellow celebrities and fans, Brymo maintained his stand, adding that he was not sorry over his comments which were tagged “anti-Igbo”.

In November 2022, Brymo was nominated for the ‘Song Writer of the Year’ category at the All Africa Music Awards, alongside other singers from African countries.

However, as voting for the category is ongoing, some Nigerians have begun a petition to prevent him from winning the award due to his alleged “hateful messages” against the Igbo people.

The petition states that not awarding him the prize would send a strong message to the singer.

The petition was started on Twitter hashtag “Stop Brymo” by a Nigerian named Charles Ogundele, who stated that not receiving the honor will send the musician a clear message considering his recent derogatory statements against the Igbo people.

The petition reads, “Brymo recently put up a series of hateful messages on Twitter toward the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, going as far as retweeting a tweet which said that all Igbos are senseless.

“Some Nigerians signed the petition to prevent the musician from receiving the award after Brymo was nominated by AFRIMA for “Song Writer of the Year” last year.

“In one of his tweets, he wrote ‘fck omo Igbo’, which translates to ‘fck the Igbo people.

“His actions are ones which spark disunity and hatred in the multicultural nation that Nigeria is.

“Preventing him from winning the All Africa Music Award would send a strong message to him, and people like him, that he can’t get away with such blatant ethnic bigotry.”

As at the time of filing this report, the petition had over 8,000 signatures.

We are buying Twitter from Elon musk, says Cubana Chief Priest

Nigerian socialite and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has refuted allegations of fathering a child with a Kenyan woman named Helen.

The socialite, during an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds on Sunday, described the claims as a calculated attempt to disrupt his marriage.

Helen has publicly accused Chief Priest of abandoning her after she gave birth to a son she claims is his.

However, the businessman has repeatedly denied the allegations, asserting that he has no connection to the woman or her child.

“Children are a gift from God regardless of how they come, and I have more than enough to take care of my children, as many as possible that will come my way,” Chief Priest said.

“I have a beautiful marriage; this is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and if you watch the whole attack, it is on the marriage.”

When asked whether he would have accepted the child if proven to be his, the socialite responded, “Of course.”

He also expressed his willingness to undergo a paternity test but criticized the tone of the allegations. “You cannot bash me this hard and expect my loyalty,” he added.

Chief Priest further stated that the controversy has not impacted his marriage, emphasizing the strength of his bond with his wife. “We are not just husband and wife; we are business partners and associates that are inseparable,” he said.

He also suggested that the timing of the allegations raised questions about the accuser’s motives.

“The woman is always popping up every time I have an issue that goes viral. This shows that she has an ulterior motive rather than genuinely looking for the father of her child,” he stated.

The businessman noted that the saga has persisted for some time but maintained that he has no knowledge of the individuals orchestrating the accusations.
