Juju musician, Dayo Kujore, is dead
Music maestro, Dayo Kujore who entertained Nigerians with hits like ‘Superjet’ and ‘Soko Xtra’, has died in the early hours on Monday.
The late musician who created the Soko brand of Juju Music was confirmed dead at the Lagos State University where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
He would have turned 64 on April 4, 2022.
Kujore was born on the 4th of April, 1958 in Igbore Robiyan, Abeokuta, Ogun State to parents who were clerics of the African Church.
As a child, Kujore joined the choir in his local church and learnt how to play musical instruments such as the guitar, and the piano which made him fall in love with music.
Travelling Juju musicians who came to his village to perform at special events spotted the young Kujore’s talent and invited him to join them during their performances, which he did.
After performing with the likes of Chief Composer Jossy Olu Oguntade, MD Jaiyesinmi and Prince Adekunle, he formed a band called the Superstars with some youths, after which he formed his own band.
Following rumours that Kujore and another veteran musician, Sir Shina Peters, were in a rivalry, in 2019, he denied such claims stating that both of them saw those reports but laughed over them together.
“I have never fought with Shina Peters. When we read the news that we were fighting, we laughed over it together,” Kujore stated.
Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa has been signed up by Jaiz Bank as a brand ambassador.
An elated Musa made the disclosure in a statement on his verified handle on micro-blogging site, X on Thursday.
The Kano Pillars striker urged his fans to troop to Jaiz Bank to do business for trusting him with the new role.

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.
He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.
The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”
State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.
This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
