Yoruba comic actor, Kunle Tokunbo, popularly known as Dejo Tunfulu has died

 

Kunle Afod, a fellow actor, announced the news on his Instagram page on Friday captioning it, “You posted this few days ago Dejo Haaaaaaaaa”

“This is so sad 😭Pressy Tunfulu Daddy Junior Still can’t believe this @dejomania.”

The Nigerian entertainment sphere, particularly the Yoruba genre, has been thrown into mourning following the news of his death on Friday morning.

The actor died in an undisclosed Lagos hospital after a brief illness. The President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan, known as Mr Latin confirmed his death.

“Yes, it is confirmed. He died in a hospital this morning. But I am yet to get full details of the incident”

The deceased shot into limelight for his role in the movie titled: “Omo Oran”, featuring the veteran actor Fatai Adetayo (Lalude).

Things to know about Dejo Tunfulu:

Dejo Tunfulu, died months to his 50th birthday.

On the 31st of May, 1972, the actor was born in Idumota, Lagos Island, Lagos State. He is from Abeokuta’s Ikija neighborhood in Ogun State.

Adetokunbo graduated from Lagos Island’s Ansar-Ud-Deen primary school with a First School Leaving Certificate. He also graduated from the Dolphin High School in Ebute Elefun, Lagos Island, with a School Certificate.

In addition, he received a certificate in printing from the Modern Way Nigeria School of Printing.

In 1987, the deceased made his first television appearance in the Kolawole International Theatre Group’s drama series “Apere Ijongbon.”

He got his popular nickname as “Dejo Tunfulu” through his comic roles in movies, where he was often cast as a stammerer.

He joined a school drama club where he started horning his trade and featured in some stage plays in the early 1980s.

In 1987, he joined Akuko Gagara Theatre Group and Kolawole International Theatre Group to learn the trade.

In his early years, though, his proximity to performers like Fausat Balogun (Madam Saje) and Kayode Olasehinde (Baba Ajirebi) aided his acting career.

He rose to prominence after starring alongside renowned actor Fatai Adetayo (Lalude) in the film “Omo Oran.”

Gas Explosion in Katsina Filling Station Damages Six Vehicles

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.

The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.

He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.

The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”

State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.

This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
