Oscar Slap: Us reveals Will Smith's wife, wishes her husband hadn't slapped Chris Rock

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of troubled Hollywood actor Will Smith, has claimed that she wishes her husband had not slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards on Sunday, March 27, stated by Us Weekly report

Smith had hit comedian and actor, Rock, during the Oscars, which were aired live around the world from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with roughly 2,500 guests, for making jokes about his wife.

Pinkett and Smith are in agreement, according to a source who talked to the magazine, that he overreacted by slapping the comedian.

“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted,” the source was quoted as saying.

Shortly after the incident, which drew global outrage after a video of the slap was shared on social media platforms throughout the world, Smith received the night’s most prized award, Best Actor, for his part in the biopic King Richard.

After the slap, Rock said, “Will Smith just smacked the s—t out of me.”

Smith yelled back at the comedian, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f—king lips,” as he returned to his seat beside his wife.

Rock made comments about Pinkett’s shaved head, which the actress had felt insecure over after revealing that she had alopecia, a disorder that causes bald spots on the scalp.

Following the slap, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a statement condemning the actor’s behavior, announcing that it had begun an investigation into the incident and later apologizing to Rock.

Pinkett, who has been married to Smith since 1997, did not feel the need to be protected from anyone, according to the source, therefore her husband did not have to smack Rock.

“She’s not one of these women that needs protecting. He didn’t need to do what he did, she didn’t need protecting. She’s not a wallflower.

“She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him,” the source stated.

Despite presenting shows across the US that witnessed a spike in ticket sales, the comedian has stayed silent on the slap since the occurrence. Smith, on the other hand, apologized to Rock for his behavior that night on Instagram and denounced his own acts.

With the Academy‘s judgment on Smith’s Best Actor award becoming the subject of discussion, the actor resigned from the organization and declared that he would take any further penalty if inflicted.
