Nigerian actress, Anita Joseph-Olagunju recently defended singer Davido amidst criticism regarding his comments on Nigeria.

The controversy arose after Davido suggested that those complaining about the country’s state might lack the financial means to navigate its challenges.

Critics argued that his wealth shields him from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

Anita Joseph responded by asserting that Davido’s remarks would have been viewed differently if he had praised Nigeria. She emphasised the public tendency to attribute positive statements from wealthy individuals to their financial privilege.

The actress wrote on her verified social handle: “If Davido had said Nigeria is good, You all would have said it is because he is rich”

Anita Joseph, a prominent Nigerian actress, was born on January 4, 1985, in Anambra State. She completed her early education in her home state before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at the University of Calabar. She later moved to Lagos to advance her career in the entertainment industry.

Nigerian musician, Darlington Okoye, known by his stage name Speed Darlington, was arrested by the Nigerian Police in Owerri, Imo State, during his return to the country for a performance.

The arrest was confirmed by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday morning.

“Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a. AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon his return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest remain unclear, and the reason for his detention has not yet been made public.

Speed Darlington was reportedly arrested while attending a scheduled show in the southeastern city.

This is not the first time the controversial artist has faced legal issues.

In October 2024, Speed Darlington was arrested for allegedly cyberstalking fellow musician Burna Boy.

He was held in detention for five days before being granted bail on October 9.

As of now, there has been no further statement from the police or Speed Darlington’s legal team regarding the new arrest.

Afrobeats star, Davido is facing the potential cancellation of his highly anticipated December show in Nigeria following backlash over remarks he made about the country’s struggling economy.

The controversy began when Davido appeared on the American podcast Big Homies House, where he advised Americans against moving to Africa, particularly Nigeria.

He described the country’s economy as being in “shambles,” a statement that quickly stirred a storm of criticism from Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Prominent Nigerian figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri publicly condemned the singer’s comments, accusing him of damaging the nation’s image on a global stage.

In response to the backlash, Davido defended his position, asserting that entertainers are among the true ambassadors of the country.

On X (formerly Twitter), Davido wrote, “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!”—standing by his view that musicians and entertainers play a vital role in representing Nigeria internationally.

As the uproar continued, Davido revealed another consequence of his comments: the threat of a show cancellation.

In a tweet, he disclosed, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
