Kano: Garba Slams Governor-elect’s Warning On Public Property Construction
Kano State’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, has criticized the governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) recent directive to halt construction on public property.
He was further advised to exercise patience and avoid issuing public advisories that could lead to confusion and tension in the state.
Muhammad Garba, issued a statement in response to the governor-elect’s recent warning to groups and individuals involved in construction on public property to stay away.
In the statement released on Friday, Garba described the governor-elect’s recent directive, which warned against construction on public property, as “jumping the gun.”
He stated, “Until he subscribes to the oath of office as governor in May 29, he remains what he is, a governor-elect and lacks the powers and rights of the governor. All he can do is to reverse some of the actions taken by his predecessor when he assumes office, if there is a valid reason to do so. No governor-elect has the constitutional or legal powers to determine the direction of a state until he is sworn in.”
The Commissioner highlighted the significant powers wielded by state governors in allocating plots of land thereby noting that previous administrations, including the one in which the governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, served, had also undertaken such exercises.
The statement also pointed out that available records indicating that the previous administration had allocated land in some of the same areas.
Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor-elect, announced his transition committee on Friday, with the committee set to be inaugurated on Saturday (today).
In a statement released by his chief press secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the committee will be chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the NNPP’s senatorial candidate for Kano North. Abdullahi Musa, a retired Permanent Secretary, will serve as the secretary of the committee.
The transition committee, according to the statement, has been established with the primary aim of overseeing the smooth transfer of power from the current Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration to the incoming administration.
The statement also revealed that the official inauguration is scheduled to take place at 2 pm.

In the wake of the 2024 US presidential election, political endorsements have sparked controversy.
Kamala Harris received support from high-profile figures such as P. Diddy, Cardi B, Barack Obama, and Beyoncé, while Donald Trump gained endorsements from the Tate brothers, Elon Musk, and rapper Lil Wayne.
Some supporters of Trump celebrated the outcome, claiming that Americans chose “God over the devil,” with implications for a shift in cultural content, including less LGBTQ+ representation.
A twitter user reacting to the outcome said: “Kamala Harris was endorsed by the likes of P Diddy (Devil with horns), Cardi B (prostitute) , Barack Obama and Beyoncé (devil). Donald Trump was endorsed by the Tate Brothers, Elon Musk. And Lil Wayne. The People of America chose God over the devil. We gonna see less gay content”

Fascinating to see America’s democracy empower its people and uphold the nation’s founding principles. Congratulations to the 47th POTUS-elect”
Donald Trump won the 2024 U.S. presidential election in a stunning comeback, securing more than 270 Electoral College votes, with a victory in the key swing state of Wisconsin.
Despite legal troubles and controversies, including multiple criminal indictments, Trump prevailed by capitalising on voter concerns about the economy, immigration, and rising prices.
His campaign focused on addressing issues like inflation and crime, while presenting Kamala Harris as unable to manage these problems.
Trump’s victory was driven by strong support from rural, white, non-college-educated voters, Hispanics, and lower-income households. The win also saw Republicans gain a majority in the Senate, though control of the House remains uncertain.
