Davido Wins Five Awards At 2023 AFRIMA Awards

Renowned Afrobeat sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is poised to take centre stage at the upcoming UnitedMasters Grammy Weekend Concert.

The event is scheduled as a prelude to the 66th Academy Grammy Awards and will feature other international talents such as Dominican rapper Tokischa and South Africa-based DJ Artist Uncle Waffles.

Mark your calendars for the Hollywood Palladium on Friday, February 2, 2024, as music enthusiasts anticipate an electrifying performance ahead of the main awards ceremony on Sunday, February 4, at Crypto Com Arena in Los Angeles.

The announcement, made via UnitedMasters’ official Instagram account on Thursday, has stirred anticipation, echoing last year’s success that attracted over 2,500 fans. The event boasted an illustrious audience, including the likes of Jay Z, Beyonce, Nas, DJ Khaled, Wiz Khalifa, Future, Damson Idris, and other notable figures.

Davido’s star continues to rise, propelled by the remarkable success of his latest album, “Timeless,” which has surpassed an impressive one billion streams. The album’s excellence is further underscored by its three Grammy nominations for Best Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Global Music Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

In response to his Grammy nods, Davido emphasized resilience, particularly in the face of past delays, highlighting the recognition bestowed upon his contemporaries, Burna Boy and Wizkid, by the prestigious academy.

Davido’s acclaim extends beyond the music realm, with honours pouring in from Atlanta and Georgia. In October, the city of Atlanta declared November 18, 2023, as “Davido’s Day,” while Fulton County, Georgia, designated November 21, 2023, as “Davido Appreciation Day.” Additionally, the Georgia State Assembly bestowed upon Davido the title of an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen.”

“It’s very, very personal,” Wizkid said during an interview with Esquire earlier this year. “I hope it lifts spirits and spreads positive energy.”

The 16-track album features high-profile collaborations with Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Asake, Anaïse, and Tiakola. It follows his 2022 release, More Love, Less Ego, which peaked at No. 2 on the World Albums chart and No. 59 on the Billboard 200.

The album’s lead single, Piece of My Heart, featuring Brent Faiyaz, debuted in October and has already achieved significant success, reaching No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.
