Social Media Critic, VeryDarkMan Remanded In Police Custody
Martin Otse, a social media critic known as VeryDarkMan, has been remanded in police custody until his next court hearing, scheduled for next Wednesday.
Otse appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, facing five charges of cyberstalking involving the Nigeria Police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail, but the police prosecution team requested more time to prepare their response. Consequently, Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon adjourned the bail hearing to May 29.
The prosecution initially sought to have Otse remanded in prison, but his lawyers successfully argued for his remand in police custody instead.
The court granted this request, and Otse was subsequently taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.
The charges against him read, “1. Posting a video on October 29, 2023, on his Instagram handle ‘verydarkblackman’ that contained offensive, pornographic, or menacing information, falsely alleging that Iyabo Ojo had an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter, violating Section 24 (1)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015.
“That you Martins Vincent Otse (A.K.A. VERYDARKBLACKMAN) ‘M’, 29 YRS of Supreme Court Estate Karu, Abuja on or about 29th October 2023, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly and intentionally posted videos, by means of a computer system on your Instagram handles ‘verydarkblackman’, which video contained information that is grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character wherein you stated that one Iyabo Ojo is having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter knowing or having reasons to believe that the information in the video you posted on your Instagram handle is false and you thereby committed the offence of Cyberstalking contrary to and punishable under section 24 (1)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) ACT, 2015.
2. Posting a video on January 19, 2024, on Instagram, falsely accusing King Tonto Dikeh of criminal conversion of crowdfunding proceeds and being behind the Gistlover blog, intending to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and other harm, in violation of Section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime Act.
COUNT 3: That you Martins Vincent Otse (A.K.A. VERYDARKBLACKMAN) ‘M’, 29 YRS of Supreme Court Estate Karu, Abuja on or about 19th January 2024, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly and intentionally posted videos, by means of a computer system on your Instagram handles ‘verydarkblackman’ containing the information you know or had reasons believe to be false, wherein in the video you falsely published that King Tonto Dikeh is accused of criminal conversion of the proceeds of crowdfunding for Justice for Mohbad Movement, and being the person behind the gistlover blog, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to the person of the said King Tonto Dike and you thereby committed the offence of Cyberstalking contrary to and punishable under section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) ACT, 2015.
3. Posting a video on March 19, 2024, alleging that senior police officers and lawmakers were involved in sexual activities with Bobrisky, intending to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and other harm, in violation of Section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime Act.
“COUNT 4 That you, Martins Vincent Otse (A.K.A. VERYDARKBLACKMAN) ‘M’, 29 YRS of Supreme Court Estate Karu, Abuja, on or about 19th March 2024, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly and intentionally posted videos, by means of computer system on your Instagram handle ‘verydarkblackman’, containing information which you know or had reasons to believe to be false, wherein you stated the following, ‘I put it to you say the DIGs of the Police dem dey knack Bobrisky. The senators for senate house dey knack Bobrisky…I dare the Nigeria Police, I said what I said, the DIGs are knacking him, the Lawmakers, the Senate are knacking him in the National Assembly’ which statement you made for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or
needless anxiety to the persons of the DIGs of the Nigeria Police Force and members of the National Assembly and you thereby committed the offence of Cyberstalking contrary to and punishable under section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) ACT, 2015.
4. Posting another video on March 19, 2024, claiming that Bobrisky was pimping young boys to senators and senior police officers, intending to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and other harm, in violation of Section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime Act.

VERYDARKBLACKMAN) ‘M’, 29 YRS of Supreme Court Estate Karu, Abuja on or about 19th March, 2024, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knowingly and intentionally posted videos, by means of computer system on your Instagram handles ‘verydarkblackman’ containing information you know or had reasons to believe to be false, wherein you stated that Bobrisky is pimping young boys for Senators and Senior Police Officers to sleep with, which statement you made for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury.”
Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has expressed her worries regarding the rising trend of ‘baddies’ among females on social media.
The acclaimed filmmaker shared her views during a recent interview with Arise TV, highlighting her concerns that the ‘baddies’ trend, which involves flaunting bodies and luxurious lifestyles online, lacks substance.
Akindele stressed the need for content creators to disseminate positive messages rather than merely providing entertainment.
She emphasised the importance of mindful content consumption. “I enjoy watching beautiful content, but you have to watch what you churn out. You need to focus on your brand, what you’re selling, what you want people to learn from you,” she stated.
She urged actors and self-made individuals to produce content that positively influences lives. Akindele questioned the authenticity of the lavish lifestyles often portrayed on social media, advising fans not to believe everything they see. “A is carrying a designer bag and showing you on video, but how sure are you that she’s not borrowing the bag? How sure are you that she’s rich? Don’t believe everything on social media,” she warned.
Akindele’s main concern is the superficiality associated with the ‘baddies’ trend. “I’m so worried about these so-called baddies. A baddie without showcasing what you have upstairs? We need to know what you are doing, what positive content you are creating that people would be proud of. Yes, it’s good to showcase fashion. But what do you have upstairs to show us? Are you just a baddie for mouth? Even if you are a dancer, what else do you have?”
In her closing remarks, Akindele called for a shift towards more meaningful and educational content on social media, encouraging both creators and consumers to strive for substance and authenticity.
Sophia Momodu, the first baby mother of Afrobeats star Davido, has refuted allegations that she denied the singer access to their daughter, Imade.
In response to Davido’s recent legal action seeking custody of their child, Momodu issued a statement through her legal representatives, asserting that it was Davido who had chosen not to see their daughter since July 2022.
The statement said, “David has not seen their daughter since 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions such as her birthday or Christmas for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her. “Since July 2022, David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid. Their daughter’s school has contacted him multiple times regarding the fees for the 2021/2022 school term and January 3023, no response. Legal counsel was sought in February 2023, resulting in David’s father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke, eventually paying the outstanding fees. Regardless of this neglect, Sophia strongly maintains that the most important support David can provide to their daughter is presence and emotional support.”
It added, “Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse.”
A notable figure from Big Brother Naija and an emerging singer, Hazel Oyeze Onou, better known as Whitemoney, has opened up about a challenging period in his life when he was homeless.
During an interview with Echoo Room, Whitemoney recounted how he resisted the seduction of a wealthy married woman despite his dire circumstances.
Whitemoney shared that he was living under the Ojuelegba Bridge in Lagos when he encountered the woman.
At the time, he was learning cosmetology and working in a store where the woman first saw him. She gave him her phone number and subsequently arranged to meet him at a hotel.
He claimed tthat during the meeting she offered him a blank cheque in exchange for his company.
However, Whitemoney’s principles came into play when he realised she was married. She had mistakenly sent him a picture of her family, which included her husband and five sons. Despite his difficult situation, Whitemoney declined her offer.
Reflecting on the incident, he said, “I got a blank cheque from a lady when I was living under Ojuelegba Bridge. She came into the store to buy something, then she saw me and gave me her number to call her.
“I called her. She was so beautiful. We started talking and then she called me to meet her at a hotel. Then she put out a blank cheque for me.”
He continued, “Before she put out the blank cheque, she made a mistake by sending me her family picture. She had about five boys. She was one of those women whose husbands are hardly around. If she had not done that, maybe I would have slept with her. But the fact that I knew she was married, I refused. I have a law: I can never sleep with a married woman.”
Whitemoney’s story is a testament to his strong moral code, which he upheld even during his most vulnerable moments.
