Air Peace Under Fire As FCCPC Investigates Refund Violations
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has officially summoned Air Peace over multiple unresolved complaints from passengers who were denied refunds for cancelled flights.
The regulatory body revealed that the airline’s failure to issue refunds may be a violation of consumer protection laws outlined in the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, specifically Sections 130(1)(a), 130(1)(b), and 130(2)(b).
In a public statement, the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, disclosed the basis of the action.
“FCCPC has summoned the management of Air Peace Limited over a deluge of consumer complaints from across the country relating to the non-refund of ticket fares, even in instances where the airline had cancelled its flight operations,” the statement read.

It emphasized that these provisions “expressly guarantee consumers the right to timely refunds where advance bookings, reservations, or orders are unfulfilled due to service-provider’s failure,” adding that this principle is designed to protect consumers from “unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service-providers.”
The Commission issued a formal summons to Air Peace on June 13, 2025, requiring the airline to appear at FCCPC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, June 23.
Additionally, Air Peace must present several records during the appearance, including: A complaint log related to refund issues within the past year, A full report of processed refunds to date, A list of all cancelled flights in the last 12 months, Any remedial actions the airline has taken to address customer inconvenience.
FCCPC also cited Section 33(3) of the FCCPA, which mandates compliance with the summons.
The agency warned that violations could result in “severe sanctions including fines or imprisonment.”
This latest move follows earlier regulatory action in December 2024, when the FCCPC began investigating the airline over “exploitative ticket pricing” on some domestic routes. Air Peace, however, filed a lawsuit attempting to halt that inquiry.
In response to the current development, the FCCPC clarified:
“This is an entirely different matter. The FCCPC remains committed to enforcing the provisions of the FCCPA (2018) and holding service providers accountable and ensuring that consumers, including airline passengers, are protected from exploitative or unfair market practices.”
