Anambra Business Man Found Dead Two Days After Missing
A 37-year-old businessman, identified as Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu, was discovered dead in a hotel room in Bauchi State after going missing for two days.
The deceased was a native of Anambra State’s, Anambra East Local Government Area but he lived in Boi Village, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State and ran a supply store there.
His body was discovered on December 1, 2022, which was two days after he was reported missing.
The incident happened a week after gunmen who are still holding young politician Markus Masoyi captive in Boi and demanding a N100m ransom kidnapped him.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of Chukwujekwu’s death remained a mystery as no one could give a clue as to what led to his disappearance in the first place before he was found dead.
A member of the Police Community Relations Committee in the area, who spoke anonymously, said that the incident had left many residents of the area in total confusion.
According to him, the deceased was found dead in a hotel room after he was reported missing and reported to the PCRC as well as the Police Divisional Headquarters in Bogoro.
According to reports, the deceased, who was a prominent Igbo community member in the area, attended the Igbo end-of-year party on Wednesday night.
The deceased’s wife, Grace Chukwunonso, and their three children reportedly survived him.
His body has been placed in the morgue, and police have announced that they are looking into the incident.
The Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, who confirmed the tragic incident, said, “One Mrs Grace Chukwuemeka, 27 years old, reported at the Bogoro Divisional headquarters on 30 November, 2022, that her husband, Mr Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu, left home for his provision shop located at Boi and since then he did not return.
“Immediately after she reported, the DPO, Bogoro led a team of detectives to organise a search party in the area. Consequently, he was found dead in a hotel room situated at Tudun Wada area of Boi in Bogoro LGA lying on the floor with saliva and foams from his mouth.
“The DPO and his men evacuated the corpse to the General Hospital, Bogoro where he was certified dead by a medical doctor on duty.
“Presently, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of the death. Investigation is ongoing.”
Former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, along with his daughter and two others, have been slated for arraignment today (thursday) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
They face charges related to an alleged N2.7 billion fraud linked to the failed Nigerian Air project.
The proceedings are set to unfold before Justice Sylvanus Oriji at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.
The charges, based on court documents, accuse Sirika of granting undue advantage to certain entities in Abuja between April 2022 and March 2023.
The anti-graft agency has accused Sirika of misusing his authority by awarding a N1.3 billion consultancy contract for the Nigerian Air Start-up to Tianero Nigeria Limited.
This alleged action is said to contravene Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
In a separate charge, the EFCC alleges that on or around August 18, 2022, in Abuja, Sirika utilized on or about August 18, 2022 ia, Sirika “did use your position to confer unfair advantage upon Al Buraq Global Investment Limited, whose alter ego, Fatima Hadi Sirika and Jalal Sule Hamma are your daughter and son-in-law respectively, by using your position to influence the award to them, the contract for the Apron Extension at Katsina Airport for the sum of N1.498,300,750.00.”
The anti-graft agency asserted that Sirika’s actions amounted to a violation of Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, rendering him liable to punishment under the same section.
In count three, the EFCC accused Sirika of criminal breach of trust “while serving as the Minister of Aviation and in his capacity as a public officer” on or around August 18, 2022, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the court.
In late April, the former aviation minister was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency and interrogated for several days.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reached an out-of-court settlement with renowned barman, Pascal Okechukwu, famously known as Cubana Chief Priest, regarding charges of naira abuse.
This development surfaced during the latest court proceedings presided over by Justice Kehinde Ogundare.
Cubana Chief Priest has been facing a three-count-charge related to the misuse of the national currency at a social gathering, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
