EFCC To Arraign Ex-AGF Malami, Son Over Money Laundering
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has concluded arrangements to arraign a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged money laundering.
The arraignment is scheduled to hold on Tuesday before Justice Emeka Nwite, where the defendants are expected to take their pleas on a 16-count charge filed by the anti-graft agency.
Confirming the development, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that Malami would be docked as planned.

“Yes, Malami will be arraigned tomorrow before Justice Emeka Nwite,” Oyewale said.
Malami, who served for eight years as Attorney-General of the Federation under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is being prosecuted alongside his son and another individual named in the charge.
According to the EFCC, the defendants allegedly conspired at different times to conceal, retain and disguise proceeds of unlawful activities amounting to several billions of naira.
The commission further alleged that the illicit funds were laundered through the use of companies and multiple bank accounts, while large sums of cash were reportedly retained as collateral for loans.
The EFCC also claimed that the defendants acquired high-value properties in Abuja, Kano and other locations across the country using proceeds of the alleged unlawful activities.
Some of the offences, the anti-graft agency said, were allegedly committed while Malami was serving as Attorney-General of the Federation, contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended), and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Malami and the other defendants are expected to enter their pleas when the matter comes up for arraignment on Tuesday.
