Future In Doubt As Messi Hints At Retirement After Argentina Win

Messi Will Triumph in Qatar 2022 – Mr Macaroni Predicts

Lionel Messi has cast fresh uncertainty over his playing future after suggesting that the 2026 World Cup may be his last, despite inspiring Argentina to a 3-0 victory over Venezuela in Buenos Aires.

The 37-year-old captain was the star of the night, scoring twice in the 39th and 80th minutes, while Lautaro Martínez added a third.

Messi was denied a hat-trick after one of his goals was ruled out for offside.

Reflecting on the occasion, the Inter Miami forward described it as a dream moment:
“Being able to finish this way here is what I’ve always dreamed of,” Messi said.

“I’ve experienced a lot of things on this pitch, both good and not so good, but it’s always a joy to play in Argentina, in front of our fans.”

However, when asked about his long-term plans, the Argentine talisman admitted that age may force him to step aside after the next World Cup.

“Same as I said before about the World Cup that I don’t think I’ll play another. Because of my age, the most logical thing is that I won’t make it. But well, we’re almost there so I’m excited and motivated to play it,” he explained.

Messi added that he intends to take things one step at a time before making a final decision.

“Day by day, trying to feel good and above all, being honest with myself. Hopefully I’ll have a good preseason in 2026 and finish this MLS season well and then I’ll decide.”

Argentina, already assured of qualification, remain top of South America’s standings with 38 points. Uruguay, Colombia, and Paraguay have also secured places, joining Brazil and Ecuador.

For fans at the Monumental Stadium, the night was both celebratory and emotional a reminder that they may be witnessing Messi’s final competitive appearances on home soil.

In this awesome pattern of things you actually secure a B- just for hard work. Where you actually lost us was in your facts. As people say, the devil is in the details… And it could not be much more true right here. Having said that, let me say to you precisely what did give good results. Your writing is definitely highly powerful which is possibly why I am taking the effort to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, while I can certainly notice the leaps in reasoning you come up with, I am not really confident of just how you appear to unite the details which inturn make your conclusion. For right now I will, no doubt subscribe to your point however hope in the foreseeable future you actually connect your dots much better.
