Legendary British actor Maggie Smith, who enjoyed a career of over seven decades in film and theater has passed away at the age of 89.

The news of her passing was confirmed in a statement released by her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens on Friday.

The statement reads, “It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September.”
