INEC Declares PDP’s Dauda Lawal Governor-Elect Of Zamfara State
Dauda Lawal, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared the governor-elect of Zamfara State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Lawal secured a total of 377,726 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent governor, Bello Matawalle, polled 311,976 votes.
The announcement of Lawal’s victory was made early Tuesday morning in Gusau, the state capital.
Prior to the announcement of the results, there was some mild drama surrounding the presentation of the results for Maradun Local Government Area (LGA).
Allegations surfaced that the Collation Officer for the LGA, Dr Ahmed Kainuwa, had been abducted.
Nonetheless, when Kainuwa eventually arrived at the state collation centre at the INEC headquarters in Gusau, he gave reasons for his delayed appearance
