Judgement Day: PEPC To Rule On Peter Obi’s Petition First
The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja has announced that its first judgment will pertain to the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Peter Obi, challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu.
The five-member panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, began its proceedings at around 9:30 am.
Currently, the panel is hearing appearances from lawyers representing all parties and has decided that it would focus on the concluding part of the judgment, skipping some arguments made during the hearing stage.
Following the discussion of Peter Obi’s case, the court also instructed the registrar to call up the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, faced a delay at Polling Unit 3 in Okaegben Ward One, Ewohimi Local Government Area of Edo State, as officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were not present on Saturday morning.
The absence was due to heavy rainfall in the area.
Voters began to gather around 9:26 AM, waiting for INEC officials and voting materials.

However, at 10:30 AM, officials had started to arrive, and the PDP candidate followed shortly after.
Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), cast his vote today at polling unit 1, Ward 2, at Udomi Primary School in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
After voting, Okpebholo commended the electoral officials for their effective coordination and efficiency, noting that the process in his ward was particularly well managed.

To ensure a peaceful election, security personnel were deployed at the polling center.
Reports indicate that electoral officers and materials arrived on time, facilitating a prompt start to the voting process.
Today’s gubernatorial election in Edo State is significant, with over 2.2 million permanent voter cards collected by eligible voters.
Voters in Ward 7, Unit 39 of Ugbekun, Edo State, were left frustrated on election day as the BIVAS machine malfunctioned, halting the voting process.
With 839 registered voters waiting at the polling unit, election officials confirmed that a replacement machine would be provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Officials also expressed optimism that voting hours would be extended to accommodate the delay.

Friday Aiwekhoe, a senior citizen, criticized the situation, calling it unacceptable given INEC’s preparation.
He suggested that the malfunction could be politically motivated, potentially aiming to disenfranchise voters in the area.
INEC has yet to comment on the cause of the BIVAS failure.
