Military Deployed In Abuja Ahead Of Tinubu’s Second Year In Office

Ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second anniversary in office on May 29, a significant military presence has been deployed in key parts of Abuja.

Biztellers’ correspondent observed armed forces and armored vehicles stationed around the Berger Bridge area, linking Wuse Zone 6 and Jabi, on Wednesday morning.

Although no official statement has been made, the deployment appears to be part of security preparations for the anniversary events.

President Tinubu, inaugurated on May 29, 2023, is marking two years amid persistent economic challenges.

While last year’s celebration was low-key, it remains unclear whether this year will be similar.

Economic experts have rated the administration low in terms of reducing the cost of living for Nigerians, even as signs of improvement emerge in the foreign exchange market, external reserves, and government revenues.

The removal of fuel subsidies and the introduction of a floating naira have triggered inflation and rising prices, affecting the majority of Nigerians over the past 23 months.

Recall that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) spoke on Tuesday about the nation’s economic state, acknowledging the hardships but hopeful about future gains.

“People are still suffering. Yes, I agree to that, but it has started trickling in on the macroeconomic level, which is the upper level, not the lower. I am hoping that in the next two to three years the policy of Mr. President will trickle down and Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing,” he said.

Kalu added, “I’m not a sycophant. Since 1960, this is the first president (Tinubu) who stopped the subsidy and the first who merged the dollar. That’s why we are suffering; Nigerians are not used to working hard. We are used to getting cheap money.”
