Nigerian police officer rejects $200,000 bribe

The Public Relation Officer of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has come under attack by Twitter users for supporting a tweep attacking ENDSARS activist, Rinu Oduola.

The incident which occurred on Friday started when a Twitter user identified as Akin Akinwale with the handle @mrlurvy question Rinu Oduola, on ENDSARS protest donations.

@mrlurvy wrote: “If you ask Rinu to account for the EndSARS funds with her now she will start convulsing. O ri randu bi eni akara. LOOOOOOOOOOL(sic).

Replying to the tweet, Edafe, wrote, “Oh oh oh now I understand why she is always after the police on Twitter…woah, that’s where her money is.”

However, his followers who did not find his reply professional berated him for supporting an unproven claims as a police officer.

@Doinggood wrote: “A soft reminder OGA you are a Police Officer and not someone who is advertising toothpaste o! Taking side without evidence 🤦 Na wa o!”

@henryshied said: “How did they name you Bright?.”

@OwoAyodeji stated: “This is bottom of the barrel take from you officer. An image maker of the police joining partisan stuff like this? See why many Nigerians don’t believe you people?”

@UnkleAyo said: “You’re everything but Bright, Mr Police Officer. If this is your thinking speed, I’d easily agree that you load up on Microsoft explorer with an intel 4004 processing unit. Either way, to think this slow & this dull, you shouldn’t be wielding a police uniform.”

@FS_Yusuf_ said: “You are a police officer, professionalism should teach you that you shouldn’t cream yourself body with an allegation that is still unfounded. You can’t even control your emotions. I thought you were sent for PR.”

Gas Explosion in Katsina Filling Station Damages Six Vehicles

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.

The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.

He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.

The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”

State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.

This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
