‘Respect Visiting Teams,’ CAF Chief Says Amid Nigeria-Libya Incident
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has urged African nations to treat visiting football teams with the respect and dignity they deserve.
His statement comes in the wake of a troubling incident involving Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who were reportedly detained for hours at an airport in Libya after their flight was diverted.

He commended nations that uphold the values of hospitality and respect for visiting teams, stating, “We are proud of those nations that treat visiting teams and visiting football clubs with the respect and dignity that they deserve.”
The CAF President reiterated that the organization is reviewing its regulations to enhance sportsmanship and will not tolerate violations of these standards.
“When a national team or football club visits, treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve, and if there are violations of those rules, then we will take action,” he added.
As the investigation continues, Motsepe’s call for enhanced respect and sportsmanship serves as a reminder of the core values that should underpin African football.
