Transactions Above ₦500,000 Risk Trouble, Police Warn POS Operators
The Delta State Police Command has issued a strong warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators over transactions exceeding ₦500,000, cautioning that such activities could implicate them in serious criminal matters, including kidnappings.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operators were advised to be vigilant and avoid becoming unwitting tools in ransom payments.

The warning comes in the wake of a recent incident where a POS operator was used to process a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000, earning only ₦40,000 as profit.
SP Edafe highlighted the risks, noting, “Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced to you.”
He further cautioned that operators could face severe legal consequences if involved in such transactions, even unknowingly.
“My message to POS operators is clear: transactions above ₦500,000 can get you into trouble,” he emphasized. “Be wise. You may think you are just doing business, but before your lawyer can help you, you might spend some time cooling off in prison.”
