Tupac Shakur To Receive Posthumous Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star
Renowned rapper and acclaimed actor, Tupac Shakur, widely known as 2pac, is set to be posthumously recognized with a star on the esteemed Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 7.
The Walk of Fame organization announced this news in a statement released on Wednesday, confirming that Shakur will be honored with a star in the recording category.
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, Ana Martinez, said, “Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary, this iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come.
“Surely, as one of L.A. Tupac’s star will be added to the list of most visited stars,” Martinez noted.
The pronouncement also comes just weeks before the late rapper’s 52nd birthday.
Acknowledged globally for his unique blend of music, artistic expression, and activism, Tupac Shakur has made an indelible mark on the world. With an impressive record sales figure of 75 million albums worldwide.
The highly anticipated unveiling ceremony for Tupac’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be hosted by emcee Big Boy. Adding to the significance of the event, acclaimed filmmaker Allen Hughes, director of the widely acclaimed docuseries “Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur,” will also be in attendance.
The series, currently available for streaming on F/X and Hulu, offers an intimate exploration of the lives and impact of Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur.
Shakur’s sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur will accept the star on behalf of the family.
The award-winning artist was shot and killed back in 1996 by gun violence. Two of his projects, “All Eyez on Me” and his “Greatest Hits” compilation have earned Diamond certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
