UK Visa Fee Hike: Full List of New Charges for Nigerians

Published

on

The United Kingdom government has announced a sweeping increase in visa, residency, and citizenship application fees, with Nigerians among those most affected as the new charges take effect from April 8, 2026.

The revised fee structure, released by the UK Home Office, covers a wide range of visa categories including visit, student, work, and settlement applications.

The development comes amid sustained demand from Nigerians seeking opportunities in the UK for education, employment, and relocation.

Under the new rates, the standard short-term visit visa (up to six months) will increase from £127 to £135. Long-term visit visas have also been adjusted, with the two-year visa rising to £506, the five-year visa to £903, and the 10-year visa now costing £1,128.

For students, the main applicant and dependant visa fee has increased from £524 to £558, while short-term English language study visas now cost £228, up from £214.

Work visa applicants will also feel the impact. The Skilled Worker visa will now cost £819 for up to three years and £1,618 for longer durations.

Health and Care visa applicants will pay £324 for up to three years and £628 for extended stays. Other categories, including Innovator Founder, Start-up, and Scale-up visas, have also seen notable increases.

In the settlement category, the cost of applying for indefinite leave to remain has risen from £3,029 to £3,226.

The route to settlement now costs £2,064, while dependent relative applications have increased significantly.

For Nigerians seeking British citizenship, the naturalisation fee has been raised to £1,709 from £1,605.

Adult registration now costs £1,540. However, in a rare exception, the fee for registering a child as a British citizen has been reduced from £1,214 to £1,000.

Travel document fees have also been adjusted, with adult certificates of travel now costing £320, while children’s fees rise to £161.

Despite the widespread increases, a few visa categories remain unchanged, including the High Potential Individual visa and the Tier 1 (Investor) visa.

The UK remains one of the top destinations for Nigerians, with thousands applying annually for visas across different categories.

However, the latest fee hike is expected to add financial pressure on applicants, particularly students and young professionals pursuing relocation opportunities.

Showunmi Urges South-East to Judge Tinubu by Projects, Not Propaganda

Published

on

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for 2027, has urged the South-East to assess President Bola Tinubu’s administration based on verifiable projects and measurable results rather than political propaganda.

Showunmi made the call in a statement posted on X on Saturday, urging Nigerians to evaluate the government’s performance based on infrastructure delivery, funds committed to projects and their impact on communities.

He said federal infrastructure initiatives targeting the South-East under Tinubu’s administration deserved serious scrutiny and factual assessment, adding that unfulfilled promises should continue to be pursued until the expected results were delivered.

“Our message is clear: We will not trade facts for propaganda, nor accountability for political loyalty!” he said.

The political figure challenged critics of the administration to provide evidence to support their claims, while urging those defending the government to present the projects and demonstrate their impact.

He also called on government officials to publish relevant figures, disclose project timelines and provide measurable results, insisting that no public official should be exempt from scrutiny.

According to Showunmi, the South-East deserves infrastructure that supports economic growth, including roads that connect markets, investments that create jobs and policies that expand economic opportunities.

He maintained that political representation must translate into tangible benefits for citizens, stressing that public office should deliver value to the people.

As part of his call to action, Showunmi urged Nigerians to scrutinise government records, challenge misinformation with evidence and demand the completion of outstanding projects.

He further called for public commitments to be matched by measurable delivery, arguing that leadership should be assessed by facts and results rather than political rhetoric.

Ending his statement with the slogan, “Asiwaju is a goal,” Showunmi called for accountability and greater inclusion of the South-East in Nigeria’s development.

Showunmi is associated with The Alternative and is a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.
