Arsenal Sign Kai Havertz From Chelsea

Published

on

German attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has joined Arsenal from Chelsea, signing a “long-term contract.”

The exact transfer fee has not been disclosed by either club, but reports from British media suggest that Arsenal has paid Chelsea around £65 million or €75 million.

Havertz’s signing marks Arsenal’s first acquisition of the summer transfer window.

Prior to joining Arsenal, Havertz played for Chelsea since 2020, having made 139 appearances and scoring 32 goals, including the decisive goal in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City.

Last season, Arsenal finished as runners-up in the Premier League, while Chelsea, undergoing squad reconstruction, ended the season in 12th place.

Havertz told Arsenal web site that “The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently,”

“The aim is to win trophies and I’m going to give everything to do that.”

He posted a farewell message to Chelsea on social media.

He said “with a heavy heart…saying goodbye to the club that has become my second home, and to the incredible fans who have supported me throughout this amazing journey.”

According to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, he expressed his thoughts on the signing of Kai Havertz, stating “Kai is a player of top quality. He has great versatility and is an intelligent player. He will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play.

However, recent scans have revealed ligament damage, leading Arteta to acknowledge the injury’s seriousness.

Arteta said, “The scans showed some damage, especially to one of the ligaments in the ankle. While I can’t provide an exact timeframe, it is significant, and we’ll miss him for a while. We’re hopeful it won’t be for months, but we’ll see.”

Arsenal, who were Premier League runners-up last season, will face Manchester City, the reigning champions, on Sunday.
