Money Laundering: Court Set Date For EFCC, Ikuforiji To Adopt Addresses
The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has scheduled November 15 as the date for adopting addresses in the money laundering trial involving former Lagos speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji.
The decision was made by Justice Mohammed Liman after defense counsel Dele Adesina presented a certified true copy (CTC) of the 2014 proceedings from former trial judge Justice Ibrahim Buba.
Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his former personal assistant Oyebode Atoyebi are facing a 54-count charge of money laundering amounting to N338.8 million, as brought forward by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty and have been allowed to remain on bail, which was initially granted to them in 2012 when they were first arraigned.
During the court session, Mr. Adesina submitted the CTC of the previous proceedings through a subpoenaed witness, Adewale Olatunji, a former chief accountant of the Lagos parliament.
The prosecution counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, did not oppose the submission of the document, resulting in its admission as evidence by the court.
Additionally, the court also admitted into evidence Mr. Olatunji’s statement to the EFCC during the investigations.
Following the admission of these exhibits, the court fixed November 15 as the date for adopting written addresses in the case.

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.
He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.
The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”
State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.
This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
