Eight former SpaceX employees have filed a lawsuit against the company and its CEO, Elon Musk, alleging wrongful termination and a hostile work environment.

The lawsuit, submitted in California, claims that the employees were fired after they raised concerns about workplace culture in an open letter to SpaceX management.

The suit accuses Musk of treating women as “sexual objects” and engaging in lewd banter.

It further alleges that Musk personally ordered the employees’ dismissals in response to their complaints.

The complaint describes the company’s culture as reminiscent of the “dark ages,” where women are judged based on their appearance with dissenters told to seek employment elsewhere.

Additionally, the lawsuit highlights an incident where Musk and other senior executives appeared in a video that made light of sexual misconduct, which was shown at an employee holiday party.

This, the plaintiffs argue, exemplifies the toxic environment at SpaceX.

The lawsuit alleges that SpaceX VP of Human Resources Brian Bjelde had an employee demonstrate the “correct” way to spank him. SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

“Filing this suit marks an important milestone in our quest for justice, for holding leadership accountable, and for implementing responsible changes in workplace policies,” said plaintiff Paige Holland-Thielen.

The lawsuit accuses SpaceX of creating a hostile work environment, retaliation, failure to prevent harassment, gender discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, and wrongful termination.

The same group of former SpaceX employees had previously filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), claiming they were targeted for retaliation.

This case has been delayed after SpaceX sued the NLRB, arguing that its enforcement processes violated the U.S. Constitution. In May, an appeals court granted SpaceX a temporary block, halting the NLRB’s pursuit of the case.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Musk allegedly had inappropriate interactions with female SpaceX employees, including a sexual relationship with a former intern.

These allegations come at a challenging time for Musk, as Tesla shareholders are set to vote on his controversial $55 billion pay package on Thursday, which could significantly boost his wealth.

In a significant boost to healthcare education infrastructure, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) has donated a state-of-the-art hostel block to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.

Biztellers reports that the new facility aims to provide comfortable accommodation for nursing students and support the federal government’s ambitious goal of producing 120,000 nurses annually.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, who highlighted the hostel’s modern amenities.

According to Alausa, “The newly built 36-bed hostel is equipped with en-suite bedrooms, kitchenettes, common rooms with flat-screen TVs and Set top box, and internet access, capable of housing over 120 female nursing students.”

In addition, he announced further commitments by OSSAP-SDGs under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

“OSSAP-SDGs has committed to building a second hostel at Igbobi and a hostel for the students at Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Yaba.

“These hostels are crucial to achieving our goal of producing 120,000 nurses annually. Our youth are our future, and we must continue to encourage and build safe, nurturing environments for them to grow and become valuable contributors to society,” he added.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire expressed her joy at the event.

In her words, “I am elated to be here today as we officially commission this state-of-the-art School of Nursing Hostel. This facility is one of many strategic health projects constructed and fully equipped by OSSAP-SDGs across the country.”

Princess Orelope-Adefulire detailed the hostel’s features, thus, “The new building has 26 rooms on one suspended floor, 2 kitchenettes, 1 store, 2 matron rooms, and 2 lounges, accommodating up to 144 students. This facility addresses the critical accommodation needs, ensuring our nursing students have a safe, comfortable place to live, which is essential for their studies and professional development.”

She emphasized the hostel’s benefits, highlighting how it alleviates accommodation issues, reduces commute time, enhances academic performance, and fosters a sense of community among students.

“By addressing these issues, we are not only improving the quality of education for these students but also contributing to the overall goal of SDG-3, ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being.”

Princess Orelope-Adefulire reaffirmed OSSAP-SDGs’ commitment to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.

“We will continue to prioritize interventions that impact the lives of the poor and vulnerable so that no Nigerian is left behind,” she added.

The new hostel at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, represents a significant step towards enhancing healthcare education and supporting Nigeria’s future nurses, ensuring they are well-equipped and motivated to contribute to the nation’s healthcare sector.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly planning a significant cabinet reshuffle, which will involve appointing new ministers and establishing a new ministry dedicated to livestock development.

The move aims to address farmer-herder clashes and support the administration’s livestock master plan.

The reshuffle will also include appointing state ministers for most ministries that currently have only one minister, as well as filling vacant positions in ministries with suspended or absent ministers.

Ministries without ministers of state are arts, culture and creative economy; foreign affairs; special duties and inter-governmental affairs; communications, innovation and digital economy; finance; marine and blue economy; solid minerals development; tourism; transportation; industry, trade and investment; innovation, science and technology; works; sports development; and Women affairs.

Others are aviation and aerospace development; power; budget and economic planning; information and national orientation; justice; and Niger Delta affairs.

One of the sources also disclosed that some ministers of state had been penned down for upgrade and that it was certain that some ministers would be sacked.

He said, “I can confirm to you that a former governor is among the ministers that will be dropped in the cabinet shake-up. There is also a minister of state that has been pencilled for an upgrade.”
