Bitter Reactions have surged as the hashtag #TinubuMustGo erupted across all social media platforms, transforming them into arenas of intense discontent.

It appears Nigerians are increasingly frustrated with the pervasive influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, which has ignited a storm of criticism and strong agitation for change.

Netizens accused President Tinubu of corruption and political strong-arming, which have significantly marred his legacy.

However, these issues merely scratch the surface of a broader dissatisfaction.

The implementation of policies aligned with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), strongly advocated by President Tinubu, has been blamed for exacerbating economic woes.

Critics argued that these measures, rather than fostering growth, were stifling the Nigeria’s economic potential.

The daily lives of Nigerians had marked by escalating living costs, rampant unemployment, and increasing insecurity.

Many were questioning the rationale behind enduring policies perceived as favouring a select few at the expense of the general populace.

Government expenditures also came under fire.

The allocation of N21 billion to renovate the Vice President’s residence and N90 billion to sponsor Hajj trips, amidst widespread economic hardship, were highlighted as blatant disregard for the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

Particularly disillusioned are the youth, who view President Tinubu as emblematic of outdated politics that hinder national progress.

The fervour of #TinubuMustGo reflects a broader call for accountability, transparency, and a fresh approach to governance.

One Twitter user wrote, “We didn’t vote for Tinubu, let him pack his things and leave Aso Rock. If I meet for that Aso Rock him no go like me oh”

Another user tagging INEC official page wrote, “Good morning @inecnigeria unfortunate greetings to you all. I’m here to tell you that if you don’t give us free and fair elections, we we’ll take it by force. We will crush anyone in our way. We will not be going through the corrupt court system.”

In the same vein, @sacobi5 wrote “I am ready to lead this protest in my area”

This movement is not just a transient trend; it encapsulates a profound desire for a new era.

The message resonates clearly: Nigerians are weary of the status quo and are demanding substantive change.

Impeached deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu cannot hide his joy at the misfortune that befallen the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election, Asue Ighodalo.

Recall that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday voided the February 2024 election that produced Ighodalo on the ground that the 378 delegates who were supposed to vote at the primary were illegally excluded by the PDP.

In a quick response, Shuaibu, who was eased out as deputy governor through a vexatious impeachment process and frustrated from participating in the nomination process now considers himself vindicated.

Edo PDP Backs Ighodalo, Despite Court Ruling

He gave kudos to the judiciary for the ruling.

He stated, “I have been vindicated and I salute the judiciary. This victory is for the Edo people.

“I said it from day one that I have the authentic delegates and they voted for me on the day of the primary.

“I said that what happened that day at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium was like a birthday party or a wedding reception because the real people that were supposed to vote were not there but with the court now I have been vindicated.

“I have been vindicated and I salute the judiciary. This victory is for the Edo people, it is for democracy and by the grace of God, we will take our state back from outsiders.”

The pendulum in the power-play in Rivers State, marked by fierce battles for supremacy between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has swung again.

This time, pundits fear that Wike has been handed the initiative with the Court of Appeal, having set aside an ex parte order given by the Rivers State High Court, in Port Harcourt, on May 10, 2024 which declared the seats of the lawmakers loyal to the minister vacant.

The ex parte order also stopped Martin Amaewhule from parading himself as Speaker of the RSHA.

The appellate court also dismissed the decision of the State High Court stopping 24 other members of the Assembly from accessing the complex or carrying out any such legislative assignment in the name of the RSHA.

Amaewhule and other aggrieved lawmakers had gone before the appellate court for the determination of the jurisdiction of a lower court to hear and also grant and ex parte order, on a matter held that the federal.

The appellate observed that the federal high court was exclusively and mandatorily the only court empowered to hear such matters and not a State High Court, citing section 273 of the Constitution.

The three-man panel led by Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada therefore upheld the appeal filed by a factional speaker of the RSHA, Amaewhule and 24 others against the Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo and two others.

It is noteworthy that only the Federal High Court and no other court has the jurisdiction to determine cases of tenures and vacancies of the House of Assembly, Governors and President and not the State High Courts (Rivers State High Inclusive).

“From the foregoing, it is of the view of the learned judges that there was no contention on the speakership of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewule from the records, and therefore, remains the speaker,” Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada held.

Observers are wondering what would be the fate of the Gov Fubara, with Wike and his army likely to take finish him off with an impeachment, so as to take absolute control of Rivers State.
