Controversial Critic VeryDarkMan Regains Freedom

Published

on

Martin Otse, a controversial social media critic known as VeryDarkMan, has been released after over two weeks in detention.

Otse, who had been held in police custody since May on cyberstalking charges, was granted bail with his trial adjourned to December 16, 2024.

VeryDarkMan was arraigned on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he faced five counts of cyberstalking related to the Nigerian police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

During the court session, Otse’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail.

The police prosecuting team, however, requested more time to respond, prompting Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon to postpone the bail hearing to May 29.

The prosecution sought to have VeryDarkMan remanded in prison, but his legal team successfully argued for his remand in police custody instead.

The court granted this request, and he was taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.

Following the adjournment, the court granted bail to VeryDarkMan, and the trial was rescheduled to December 16, 2024.
