Biliamin Oba, Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to reduce their spending in the light of Nigeria’s ongoing economic difficulties.

Addressing attendees at the 2024 International Youth Day event hosted by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chapter in Badagry on Tuesday, Oba, who previously served as Chairman of NYCN Lagos, stressed the importance of collective effort in navigating the current economic climate.

Oba expressed optimism about President Bola Tinubu’s plans for national recovery and praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to making Lagos an exemplary city.

He also acknowledged Ashade Abdulsalam for his role in organizing the event aimed at empowering local youth.

He said, “We need to start cutting our costs, pending the time things will stabilise. Everything has increased, transportation costs and standard of living have skyrocketed.

“We have to reduce costs. The present situation has become a burden on us, so we have to be economical.

“I am very sure President Bola Tinubu has a great plan for this country and Sanwo-Olu is also working round the clock to ensure Lagos remains the best place for all and sundry.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has vowed to accept defeat if the election is conducted fairly.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ighodalo assured the public that he would respect the outcome, provided the process is transparent.

Despite this, Ighodalo expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning the September 21 election, citing his assessment of the political landscape.

He also called on Edo residents to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic duty, assuring them that adequate measures are in place to ensure their safety at the polls.

Ighodalo emphasized that the people of Edo State alone would determine who becomes their next governor.

He said, “The first question my daughter asked me the day I told her I am conceding. She said daddy you are not used to losing. I don’t think you have ever lost. If you lose this, how will you take it?

“Honesty if we lose this election and we know we lost it fairly and squarely, I will be the first to concede. But I know we cannot lose this election if the playing field is levelled. We cannot lose this election.

“We have related well with the people of Edo State. We told the people of Edo State what we will do for them and they trust us. They will vote for us. I know at a level playing field, we will win.”

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has reiterated that he has no regrets for threatening to take drastic action against any governor who interferes in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Wike, who has been locked in a power struggle with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara over control of the state’s political structure, made the remarks following the intervention of the PDP Governors Forum.

The forum had publicly backed Fubara, deepening tensions between the two leaders.

In response to the forum’s stance, Wike issued a stern warning, threatening to “bring fire” to the states of any governors who involve themselves in the Rivers State crisis.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wike stood by his comments. “I said it to the governors’ forum, and I repeat, I have no apologies. Heaven will not fall, and even if it does, there will be peace,” Wike stated.

The minister further clarified that, aside from the Governor of Zamfara State, whom he claims not to know personally, he has relationships with all other state governors.

He said, “You mean as I sit as FCT Minister from Rivers State, the only person I can say I have no relationship with is the governor of Zamfara, I don’t know him; if I see him now I won’t know him.

“I know all other governors and they know me and we have a relationship. You mean you want to violate the processes and constitution of our party.

“After your meeting, you came out on national television as chairman of the forum to read a communique that their brother in Rivers state – whether legal or not – and I’m sitting as FCT Minister from that state listening, and you expect me to fold my arms because you are a governor?

“You look at me and tell me that? Expecting me to fold my hand for everything to be well?
