JUST IN: Immigration Confirms Bobrisky’s Arrest
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Monday declared social media personality Okuneye Idris, also known as Bobrisky, a person of interest in an ongoing investigation.
The NIS also confirmed that its officers intercepted Bobrisky at the Seme border earlier in the day while he attempted to flee the country.
In an official statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, the NIS stated, “The Service wishes to inform the public that OKUNEYE IDRIS is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.” The statement, titled ‘Nigeria Immigration Service Intercepts Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky) at Sème Border Attempting to Flee the Country,’ was released on Monday evening.
The controversy surrounding Bobrisky began in April 2024 when the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months in prison for naira abuse. Although he was initially sent to Kirikiri Prison, reports surfaced suggesting that Bobrisky spent only three weeks in the facility before being secretly transferred to a private location.
These reports led to widespread speculation that his early release was facilitated through bribery, with allegations of a N15 million payment made to officials for his preferential treatment.

The situation intensified in late September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan shared an audio recording that allegedly featured Bobrisky. In the recording, Bobrisky reportedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his imprisonment, asking for N10 million to secure a presidential pardon.
In response, the Falanas issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, 2024, demanding a public retraction and apology for the defamatory statements.
Bobrisky denied making the claims, stating that he was not responsible for the leaked audio and that VeryDarkMan should be held accountable for the allegations.
Meanwhile, the NIS reaffirmed its commitment to border security in its Monday statement: “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.”
The Service assured the public that it would remain civil and professional in its duties of securing Nigeria’s borders.

“The Sound City presenter even confronted me at Club Rumours one time boasting that he was the one that ordered presenters at his station not to play my songs because I was mimicking 2Face.
“The event planner at Festac Carnival insisted that I won’t perform because I look like their King 2Face. The same thing happened when I went for an interview at Cool FM; the presenter said he can’t interview someone who imitates 2Face.
“I complained to my mum and my record label boss, Baba Keke but they urged to be calm. Sometimes, when I try to pay homage to 2Face when we meet in public, some of his team members will block me.”
Joe El shared that people began to embrace his music after collaborating with 2Baba on the song ‘Hold On’ in 2015.
Explaining his departure from Kennis Music after 12 years, he simply stated, “The contract was over.”
