Boko Haram Attack Kills 31 Fishermen, Dozens Missing In Borno
Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked the fishing village of Tunbun Rogo in Borno State’s Kukawa local government area on Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 fishermen and leaving 40 others missing.
The National President of the Fish Dealers Association of Nigeria, Mohammed Laminu, confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Maiduguri, expressing the association’s shock and grief.
He said “We are saddened by the killing of our fishermen by the terrorists in Baga. Forty fisherman are still missing as of today. We called on the government and Nigerian military to do more in protecting citizens against attacks from the terrorists. The activities of the terrorists is crippling our fishing business.”
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, reported that the terrorists killed 31 fishermen, leaving many families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.
The eyewitness said “The corpses of the victims remain in the bush, while others who fled to nearby bushes are gradually returning with wounds, receiving treatment from a military base at Cross Kauwa.
“The terrorists stormed the area, armed with weapons, and rounded the fishermen before opening fire. The attack occurred after the fishermen had been ordered by the military to vacate the area for a clearance operation. Despite complying with the order, the terrorists targeted them upon their return,”
“We were gathered by the terrorists, who claimed they wanted to preach to us. Instead, their commander ordered our execution. Thirty-one (31) fishermen were killed, and over 40 of us managed to escape.
“One of the terrorists was punished by their commander for allowing some of us to flee.”
The victims were fishermen from Monguno, Doron Baga, Cross Kauwa, and Baga towns.
As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian military authorities nor any other security agency has issued a statement regarding the attack.
Before the Boko Haram insurgency, Baga in Kukawa town was renowned for its fish farming and production of sweet smoked fish, attracting buyers from all over the country to Borno State.

The Senior Pastor of Freedom Life International Christian Center, Richard Tochukwu, has declared that gospel music possesses the spiritual capacity to transform Nigeria, describing it as a divine instrument capable of restoring hope and unity in the nation.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, the cleric said music inspired by God’s Word can positively influence Nigeria’s spiritual and socio-political landscape by promoting peace, comfort and moral revival.
According to him, gospel music goes beyond entertainment and should be seen as a ministry tool for national healing.

“Gospel music is not just sound; it carries power. When songs are inspired by Scripture, they can heal hearts, restore faith and redirect a nation toward righteousness,” he said.
Pastor Tochukwu made the remarks while discussing his latest worship single, “I Want To Pray,” a spiritually reflective song produced by Audio5.
He explained that the track was created to encourage believers to remain steadfast in prayer and maintain consistent fellowship with God.
The song draws inspiration from Luke 18:1, which urges believers to pray always and not lose heart.
A spiritual son of Paul Enenche, Pastor Tochukwu revealed that most of his songs are birthed from deep study of Scripture.
“Sometimes while studying or preaching from a passage, a melody begins to flow. The lyrics are drawn directly from the Word. Our songs are intentional; they carry the same message we preach,” he explained.
Reflecting on his journey, he recounted beginning as a drummer who also sang before discovering what he described as a divine instruction to minister through music.
“I realised that you don’t minister only through preaching. God made me understand that songs are another channel through which His Word can reach people. Every release is backed by Scripture,” he added.
Pastor Tochukwu currently serves in Lagos, combining pastoral leadership with music ministry.
