CSR-in-Action gets UN special consultative status
By Joseph BAMIDELE
NEW YORK – CSR in Action (CIA) as announced that the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at its Coordination and Management Session of April 2014 adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to grant it a Special Consultative status.
The consultative status will enable CiA to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways. Such as opportunities to request the Secretary-General, through the Committee on Non-Governmental Organisations, to place items of special interest in the provisional agenda of the Council.
Speaking through a statement signed by Executive Director Bekeme Masade CiA stated that the development will also entitle CiA access to the United Nations and attendance to meetings and as well as to designate official representatives to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna, conferences and activities of the United Nations and organizations in general.
In addition, this status will enable CiA the opportunity to designate authorized representatives to sit as observers at public meetings of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, General Assembly, Human Rights Council and other United Nations intergovernmental decision-making bodies.
Consequently, in special consultative status, CiA is able to submit written statements relevant to the work of the Council on subjects in which we have a special competence. These statements may be circulated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the members of the Council
Commissions and other subsidiary bodies of ECOSOC may consult with us due to this Special consultative status.
This status will also offer CiA access to use of United Nations facilities, accommodation for conferences or smaller meetings related to work of ECOSOC, access to United Nations press documentation services, use of United Nations libraries.
We thereby use this medium to express our gratitude to the NGO branch of the department of Economic and Social Affairs and most especially our dedicated followers who have supported our vision from early conception.
