Oseni Rufai, SP Hundeyin, Face-Off On Twitter Over Alleged Car Theft Incident
A Twitter argument unfolded on Wednesday between Oseni Rufai, an AriseTv host and SP Benjamin Hundeyin the police public relations officer of Lagos state regarding a reported car theft incident in Lagos.
The exchange of tweets was filled with accusations and challenges that sparked a heated debate on social media.
It all began when Oseni Rufai took to his Twitter account to inform SP Benjamin Hundeyin about a disturbing incident.
Rufai claimed that a group of thieves had raided Ketu, stealing the brain boxes of over 40 cars and targeting unsuspecting individuals. He expressed his disappointment, highlighting the lack of basic security in a city of such magnitude.
In response, SP Benjamin Hundeyin questioned the validity of Rufai’s claims. He expressed his skepticism, stating that he had contacted the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Ketu and Alapere, who had no record of such an incident.
Hundeyin challenged Rufai to provide more specific information, including the street where the alleged incident occurred.
Oseni Rufai promptly replied, naming Salami Giwa Street, CAC Street, and Ladipo Street as the locations where the car thefts had taken place and urging him to verify the information properly.
Hundeyin, apparently willing to investigate further, responded, saying, “Thanks for the feedback. I will run a check now.”
In an attempt to clarify the situation, Hundeyin mentioned a previous incident, saying, “Three weeks ago, on a gated street in Alapere, one vehicle was harvested for parts. One suspect was later arrested and the case is in court. Since then, not one incident. So how did you come about 40 brain boxes removed today?”
Rufai, persisting in his claims, questioned Hundeyin’s findings, stating, “Are you saying that nothing happened on Salami Giwa Street, CAC, and Ladipo in Surulere today? Kindly check properly.”
Hundeyin, seemingly replied, saying, “I don check, nothing. Please send one Arise News crew there to interview residents. Maybe my people are lying to me.”
Seeking to provide evidence to support his claims, Rufai tweeted, “Pictures of cars damaged in the Ketu attacks. I was informed of the attacks too, @BenHundeyin kindly look into the matter.”
However, Hundeyin challenged Rufai’s credibility, asking, “You were informed too? Are you presenting hearsay, unconfirmed reports as facts or without the necessary caveat?”
