Ghana Trafficking: Alleged Kingpin Apprehended, Girls Rescued
In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, Ghanaian officials, working in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission, have rescued 11 teenage girls from the clutches of prostitution.
The girls, lured under false pretences of employment, were swiftly taken into protective custody.
The mastermind behind this heinous operation, identified as Chukwudi Nwachukwu, has been arrested and is currently in custody.
The latest developments were outlined in an official memo signed by lfedayo Moses Adeoye, the Acting High Commissioner of the Nigeria High Commission in Accra, Ghana.”
The victims listed in the memo include: Simi-Joy Ayuba, 16, Mary Noro Ezekiel, Salina Danjuma, 18, Gift Onyinyechi Odurukwe, 15, Divine Chimezie Asouzu, 15, Confidence Chimaka, 18, Miracle Oluebube, 17, Lovelyn Amarachuku, 17, and Happiness Odurukwe, 16. Simi John, 16, and Miracle Okoye, 15.
It reads “We have the honour to report that the Nigeria High Commission, Accra, has taken custody of the eleven (11) trafficked Nigerian girls who were rescued on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Wiennbba, Central Region, Ghana.
‘’The victims were rescued by officials of the Nigerian diaspora organisation, Ghana Chapter, led by its President, Prince Olayemi Akinwande. The victims, aged between 14 and 18 years, are at present being kept by the High Commission at No. 15, Circular Road, Cantonment, Accra.
“They are healthy and hearty and are currently receiving support, care, counselling, and food provided by the mission.
“We also wish to report that the alleged kingpin of human trafficking who brought the girls to Ghana, Mr. Chukwudi Virginus Nwachukwu, has been arrested. He is being detained at the Ghana Police headquarters in Accra, Ghana,” he added
Adeoye further disclosed that the High Commission had taken custody of the suspect’s passport.
He mentioned that local authorities were conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. Once the investigation concludes, the High Commission will coordinate efforts to reunite the victims with their families in Nigeria.
He said “Investigations revealed that the victims were deceived by the trafficker, who promised them restaurant jobs. It is worth noting that none of the victims have an international passport.
“They claimed they were ferried by boat from mile 2 waterside in Lagos to Porto-Novo, from where they were transported by road to Ghana.”

Gas Explosion in Katsina Filling Station Damages Six Vehicles
A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.
He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.
The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”
State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.
This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
