GWR: Ekiti Govt Bans Longest Kissing Marathon Record Attempt
The Ekiti government has enforced a ban on a three-day kissing marathon event known as the “Kiss-a-Thon” Aimed at setting a Guinness World Record within the state.
The Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism in Ekiti issued a letter signed by Adelusi A.L on behalf of the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dele Ogunsemoyin, and addressed to the secretary of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association.
In the letter, the government described the “Kiss-a-Thon” event as both immoral and absurd, stating that it had the potential to tarnish the state’s reputation.
The letter partly reads “Kiss-A-Thon”, as an event is not only absurd, unhealthy, immoral and capable of denigrating the image of the state, it is a programme that runs counter to the values of the people of the state and therefore capable of plunging our youths morally backward.”
A group named Sugartee had announced plans to hold the longest kissing marathon in a popular amusement park in Ado, the capital city of Ekiti, scheduled to begin on July 7,2023.
However, the Ekiti government has taken a firm stance on the matter. In response to the event, the government has stated that it will prohibit the hosting of such events in any facility that intends to operate lawfully within the state.
The letter added “The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hereby prohibits the hosting of such event or any other events like it in any facility that wishes to continue to operate lawfully in Ekiti State.
“You are hereby requested to convey the content of this notice to the members of Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to effectively monitor their outlets against being used negatively to cause embarrassment to the government and people of Ekiti State,”
Back in 2013, a Thai couple named Ekkachai and Lakasan Tiranarat made headlines by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest kiss.
Their remarkable feat took place during a Valentine’s Day event in Thailand, where they secured the title for the world’s longest kiss by passionately locking lips for an astonishing duration of 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds.

The Senior Pastor of Freedom Life International Christian Center, Richard Tochukwu, has declared that gospel music possesses the spiritual capacity to transform Nigeria, describing it as a divine instrument capable of restoring hope and unity in the nation.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, the cleric said music inspired by God’s Word can positively influence Nigeria’s spiritual and socio-political landscape by promoting peace, comfort and moral revival.
According to him, gospel music goes beyond entertainment and should be seen as a ministry tool for national healing.

“Gospel music is not just sound; it carries power. When songs are inspired by Scripture, they can heal hearts, restore faith and redirect a nation toward righteousness,” he said.
Pastor Tochukwu made the remarks while discussing his latest worship single, “I Want To Pray,” a spiritually reflective song produced by Audio5.
He explained that the track was created to encourage believers to remain steadfast in prayer and maintain consistent fellowship with God.
The song draws inspiration from Luke 18:1, which urges believers to pray always and not lose heart.
A spiritual son of Paul Enenche, Pastor Tochukwu revealed that most of his songs are birthed from deep study of Scripture.
“Sometimes while studying or preaching from a passage, a melody begins to flow. The lyrics are drawn directly from the Word. Our songs are intentional; they carry the same message we preach,” he explained.
Reflecting on his journey, he recounted beginning as a drummer who also sang before discovering what he described as a divine instruction to minister through music.
“I realised that you don’t minister only through preaching. God made me understand that songs are another channel through which His Word can reach people. Every release is backed by Scripture,” he added.
Pastor Tochukwu currently serves in Lagos, combining pastoral leadership with music ministry.
