Veteran Nigerian producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has declared that he is still merely scratching the surface of his career.

The 41-year-old Mavin Records boss made this statement in response to a fan’s suggestion for an all-legends concert featuring him alongside P-Square, Wande Coal, and others.

A fan, using the X handle @beingzora, tweeted, “Ughhh someone needs to plan an OG Naija music festival with P-Square, Dbanj, Wande Coal, Duncan Mighty, Don Jazzy (Old Mavins), Ice Prince!!! That would go so crazyyyy!”

Reacting to the tweet, Don Jazzy reposted it and said, “I be upcoming o. Stay there.”

Don Jazzy first gained prominence in 2004 after co-founding Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj. He later served as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s record label, GOOD Music, from 2011 to 2015.

Following the split of Mo’ Hits, he founded Mavin Records in 2012.

Court Of Appeal Upholds Baba Ijesha’s 5-Year Conviction

Published

on

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the five-year prison sentence of actor Baba Ijesha.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court had originally sentenced Baba Ijesha to five years’ imprisonment on 12 July 2022 for the sexual assault of a minor.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, Baba Ijesha appealed the judgement through his counsel, Kayode Olabiran.

Delivering the judgement on the appeal, Justice Folashade Ojo on Thursday, 27 June 2024, overturned the appellant’s conviction for the indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault of a minor between 2013-2014, describing the testimony of PW1 (Damilola Adekoya) as hearsay.

However, Justice Ojo found Adekoya’s eyewitness account for the incident on 19 April 2021 credible, emphasising that Baba Ijesha had confessed to the crime in police statements.

The appellate court further affirmed Baba Ijesha’s imprisonment for the indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault from the April 2021 incident, noting that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court ordered as follows: “I affirm the conviction and sentence of the appellant to 5 years’ imprisonment for the offence of indecent treatment of a child contrary to section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (count 4 of the charge).

“I also affirm the appellant’s conviction to 3 years’ imprisonment for sexual assault contrary to section 263 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011 (count 5 of the information).

“The sentences for counts 4 and 5 are to run concurrently.”
