‘It Was All For Promotion’ – Speed Darlington Says Viral Confession Was A Publicity Stunt
Speed Darlington has never shied away from controversy — in fact, he often embraces it as part of his persona.
But his latest move has sparked outrage that many believe has gone too far.
The Nigerian singer and internet personality is facing widespread backlash after a video emerged in which he appeared to admit to having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
In the now-viral clip, Darlington recounted the alleged incident, which he claimed happened ten years ago, offering unsettling details in a mix of English and Igbo.

The video drew swift condemnation from the public, rights groups, and government agencies, including the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
In a follow-up video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the singer claimed the entire story was fabricated as a publicity stunt to promote his new music release.
“All my followers pissed off about the video I recorded in which I spoke about me sleeping with a 15-year-old, I am an artist. I need controversy to eat. If you are not trending, you are not getting booked. Simple,” he said.
He added that his new track contains explicit content and that the shocking narrative was intended to create buzz around its release. “If any of you are offended, it’s alright. Apologies,” he concluded.
This is not the first time the singer has stirred controversy regarding underage girls. In 2022, he was accused by a neighbour of making advances toward a 16-year-old housemaid.
The confrontation was captured on Instagram Live, where Speed Darlington was seen brandishing a knife while accusing the women of invading his privacy.
In another incident reported in 2023, the artist was criticised for publicly announcing he was searching for a second girlfriend aged between 16 and 20.
“I just need to do what I did before; go do a show and spend a week in the village… find somebody to bring to Lagos,” he said at the time.
Despite the apology, public outrage remains intense, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the singer’s past statements and behaviour.
