Kwara State Gov Mourns Death Of Dadakuada Legend Jaigbade Alao

Kwara State’s legendary Dadakuada music icon, Alhaji Jaigbade Alao, has died at the age of 121.

According to his son, Alhaji Abdulrasaki Jaigbade, the music maestro passed away on Monday morning without any prior signs of illness.p

He said, “Baba died this morning without showing any sign of sickness. When he woke up early in the morning, he complained of a slight headache, and before we decided to take him to the hospital, he had given up the ghost.”

Jaigbade Alao,  is survived by four wives and 34 children, according to his son Alhaji Abdulrasaki Jaigbade.

Jaigbade created his genre of music in 1939, which originated from Kwara state.

He received an honorary doctorate degree in Arts and Culture in 2017 from the Kwara State University and was recognised as one of the state’s most distinguished personalities by the government in December 2022.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State sends condolences to the family of the late music icon, praying for Allah to grant him eternal rest and comfort his loved ones.

A condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, read, “On behalf of the government and people of Kwara State, I send our condolences to the family of Alhaji Jaigbade Alao and all lovers of his inimitable Dadakuada music worldwide. Alhaji Jaigbade was a legend whose mastery of his genre of music projected the state positively.”

“He was also a community leader in his own right. His death has created a void in the chain of great mentors for younger ones who took to his genre of dadakuada music. We beseech Allah to forgive him and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Kwara State University’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed his condolences on the passing of music legend Jaigbade Alao, stating that the university community is saddened by the news.

He described Jaigbade as an exemplary bard who used his music to entertain and raise awareness of history and politics.

“Alhaji Jaiyegbade Alao had given live performances in the university and received KWASU’s award of an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contributions to music and the development of society through his songs,” Jimoh was quoted as saying in a statement by the varsity’s Director of University Relations, Saeedat Aliyu.

Gas Explosion in Katsina Filling Station Damages Six Vehicles

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.

The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.

He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.

The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”

State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.

This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
