Leicester City Coach Postpones Contract Talks Pending EPL Return
In a strategic move, Leicester City’s coach, Enzo Maresca, has opted to delay crucial contract discussions concerning Nigerian talents Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
This decision also encompasses other players facing contract expiry this summer.
The postponement is contingent upon the Foxes’ anticipated return to the Premier League.
Leading the Championship standings with an impressive 72 points from 30 games, Leicester is poised for potential promotion and league title contention with over 100 points.
Also, the fate of key players, including Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Jannik Vestergaard, and Dennis Praet, hangs in the balance as negotiations await confirmation of the team’s top-flight status.
In a prelude to their upcoming league clash against Watford, Leicester City’s coach, Enzo Maresca, conveyed optimism about engaging in contract negotiations once the club secures their Premier League status.
Maresca emphasized the current priority is achieving the season’s final objectives.
He stated that if players concluding their contracts this season are willing to continue, it’s a favorable scenario.
However, decisions will be made based on mutual satisfaction, with both the club and players having the autonomy to choose their paths.
In his words, “At this moment the focus is on the final target for this season.
“If the players who are going to finish with us this season are happy to continue together, good. If we or they are not happy, each one is going to take his decision. We will see.
“For now, there is only one focus. Hopefully, we can have a clear situation in one month or two months. Then, when we can see where we are next year, we can make a decision but in this moment, there is only one focus.”
