Mbappe, Hakimi Shine As PSG Defeat Dortmund In Champions League Opener
On Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain commenced their Champions League journey with a successful start, securing a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Parc des Princes.
Kylian Mbappe’s penalty, awarded for a handball by Niklas Suele, broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half. Achraf Hakimi contributed a remarkable second goal, and PSG had opportunities to secure an even more convincing victory in the Group F matchup.
This outcome places Paris Saint-Germain firmly in charge of the group, following a goalless draw between AC Milan and Newcastle United earlier.
Coach Luis Enrique aims to capitalize on this performance as they prepare to face the English side in two weeks.
On the other hand, Dortmund struggled to find their form and will need to step up their game when they host Milan next in this challenging section.
They are still adjusting to the absence of Jude Bellingham, and coach Edin Terzic chose to omit Sebastien Haller, who has had a challenging start to the season, from the lineup.
Paris Saint-Germain is embarking on a fresh era, marked by the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti, and the arrival of coach Luis Enrique.
Enrique, who clinched the Champions League title with Barcelona in 2015, emphasized the need for time to convey his concepts to the squad, which includes several recent arrivals.
In their lineup for this match, PSG featured five new signings, with Ousmane Dembele and Randal Kolo Muani adding depth to the attacking lineup.
