Mohbad: ACON Urges NDLEA To Suspend Naira Marley As Ambassador

Published

on

The African Council on Narcotics (ACON) has recommended that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) temporarily suspend Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly  known as Naira Marley, from his role as an ambassador while investigations into the death of Nigerian musical talent Ilerioluwa Oladimeni Aloba, also known as MOHBAD, are ongoing.

ACON  also emphasized the importance of government agencies thoroughly vetting individuals considered for ambassadorial roles to ensure they are suitable candidates who can positively represent the brand without any tarnished reputation or negative influence on the brand’s target audience.

Rekpene Bassey, the President of ACON, emphasized in a statement from Abuja on Wednesday that the fundamental purpose of selecting a brand ambassador is to project a positive image for the brand.

This guidance comes in response to the ongoing controversy and various opinions regarding the unfortunate passing of MOHBAD on September 12, 2023, and the alleged swift burial in Ikorodu, Lagos, within a 24-hour timeframe.

Bassey in the statement said, “In the wake of this, the Nigeria Police authorities directed detailed special homicide inquest into the cause of his death.Consequently, the homicide investigators swung into action with several steps including the exhuming of his remains for autopsy.

“Several persons are being interrogated and/or interviewed over the case. All of these are being done because of the suspicion that his death was masterminded through forced ingestion of some deadly substances by certain folks who were directly or indirectly connected to him.

“However, as we await the outcome of official security investigation into the case, it may be expedient to question the rationale for the engagement of one of those suspected to be the brains behind MOHBAD’s death namely Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley as an ambassador of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) – Nigeria’s foremost anti-drug agency.

“Naira Marley hardly represents any strong positive social energy as can be seen in his public conduct and the character traits of the so-called Marlians modelling after him.

*Most of them are deviants, to say the least; engulfed in youth bulge, cultism, petty criminality, internet fraud and the abuse of dangerous drugs. How can such fellow be a role model for our youth?” he added

“First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My 5M gone. In fact am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me.”

Although she did not reveal the exact details of the bet, her Instagram Story posts during the final showed she was rooting for Argentina to retain the title.

Before kick-off, she confidently declared:
“Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?”
However, as Spain dominated large spells of the encounter and Argentina struggled to create chances, the actress’ confidence quickly turned into frustration.

Despite Argentina’s struggles, Etiko reserved special praise for goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who made a series of crucial saves to keep his side in the contest.

Spain eventually secured a historic 1-0 victory through substitute Ferran Torres, whose extra-time strike sealed La Roja’s second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after their maiden triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Argentina’s hopes of forcing penalties were further dented after midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second bookable offence late in the match.

Etiko’s admission has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many fans expressing sympathy over her loss while others cautioned against the risks associated with sports betting.

Responding to claims that she is controversial, the actress insisted that she has never intentionally sought controversy or acted to provoke public reactions.
