The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Prince Adewole Adebayo has described the new discussion on Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket stoked by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its quest for a running mate as a distraction that will not benefit Nigerians
Adebayo who is running for Presidency on the platform of SDP which late Moshood Abiola ran on with the slogan of ‘Hope ’93’ in June 1993 which he won with a running mate Babagana Kingibe another Muslim said what is needed now is an Honest-Honest ticket, Competent-Competent ticket.
Prince Adebayo who spoke in Abuja on his view of the June 12 democracy day celebration said,
“When Abiola made his choice, nobody remembered the religion of the person, so I think they are trying to force Nigerians into a conversation that does not benefit us.
“I want an Honest-honest ticket, interest-interest ticket, Competent-Competent ticket. This thing they are doing now is their own internal contradiction.
“The conversation that benefits us is the competence, the honesty, and patriotism of the person running and that is the one I think we can debate because we have evidence.”
He said, Nigerians have sufficient evidence to know that APC and PDP don’t have an honest, patriotic, or competent person, but they have made their choice so there is no need to speculate anymore.

“You can be sure that they don’t have what it takes, so why are we going back to emotional issues for which we have no control but at least they have control of the fact that before anybody will decide to choose a running mate of any religion he should have asked whether that person is competent.
“Is the person honest, is he patriotic enough to be allowed to even make a choice or to even run at all?
“I don’t think they are qualified, neither, Tinubu or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have given a good account of the opportunity God has given them, so Nigerians will come now and choose a new part in what can benefit the people.”
He said his outlook on the June 12 Democracy Day is that Nigeria is back to where it was 30 years ago when Abiola Ran on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“The issues that Abiola Canvassed, poverty is still with us, added to that is insecurity, so unless we go back to the people and get a new mandate, we cannot get democracy right.
“Is it not surprising that 30 years on we are still saying June 12 remains the fairest and freest election in Nigeria to date.
“We should have improved upon that. So let us go back to the people and let grassroots politics be the basics, grassroots democracy and Nigerians should not allow those who have run the system for the past 32 years to have another chance again.
“We should go back to where Abiola stopped and pick up from there. It is not a coincidence, I believe it is divine that I am the presidential candidate who is standing where Abiola stood 29 or 30years ago as the Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party.
“That mandate remains and we need to fulfill that destiny. People must own democracy they must not look at it as a government program.
Adebayo urged Nigerians to have faith and more hope in the country, to be united, and beat all divisions as it happened 29years ago.
He extended his gratitude to the family of late Chief MKO Abiola and all Democrats who worked for the victory of that election and who worked for the actualization after the annulment.
In his words, Adewole Adebayo reassured Nigerians of hope again.
“But here again is an opportunity, let us believe in Nigeria, let us know that the hour of redemption has come again”.
After a series of delays, the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Rivers State has finally held its much-anticipated meeting with the Sole Administrator of the state, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas.
The meeting, which took place in Abuja, comes as the House exercises its constitutional powers to assume the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly, following the ongoing political crisis in the state.
In his opening remarks, Vice Admiral Ibas apologised for his inability to attend earlier scheduled meetings, citing the need for more time to settle into his new role.

He told the committee that he is still acclimatising to the demands of his position and appealed for the lawmakers’ understanding as he prepares to provide a detailed briefing.
Shortly after his plea, the session went into a closed-door meeting, with journalists and observers asked to leave.

Deji Adeyanju, a Nigerian activist and lawyer, has made explosive claims regarding the 2023 presidential election, suggesting that former Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso secretly supported President Bola Tinubu’s campaign.
In a post shared on his 𝕏 page Thursday, Adeyanju contended that Obi, who ran against Tinubu, would likely continue to support the president in future political endeavors.
He expressed certainty that Obi would decline any efforts to form a coalition aimed at challenging Tinubu in the next election.

“I’m 100% convinced that Obi worked for Tinubu in 2023 and will do so again. I might be wrong, but I’m convinced in my mind about this,” Adeyanju wrote.
“Once a businessman, always a businessman. Those still in doubt will see the clear handwriting before 2027. He will refuse to join the coalition,” he continued.
Additionally, Adeyanju accused Kwankwaso of working in favor of Tinubu during the previous election.
He emphasized that for any opposition coalition to succeed in the 2027 race, figures like Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—another presidential hopeful—must step aside.
“For the coalition to succeed, all the self-centered politicians like Atiku & Obi should promise not to run and allow neutral folks to run against Tinubu,” Adeyanju proposed. “This is how to put the interest of the nation above personal interest,” he added.
The activist went on to criticize the culture surrounding Nigerian politics, describing it as an industry driven by opportunism.
He lamented the presence of “merchants” surrounding top politicians, accusing them of putting personal gain ahead of the country’s well-being. “The biggest industry in Africa is politics,” Adeyanju said.
“And those around popular politicians are all merchants. Once politics is around the corner, they are in business. Con men and women who just want to cash out.”
Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, attended his first National Economic Council (NEC) meeting today at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Ibas was appointed to the position by President Bola Tinubu following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025.

The NEC meeting, which is being presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, gathered a number of state governors and deputy governors from across the 36 states of Nigeria to discuss important national economic issues.
Among the notable figures in attendance was Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Governor Oborevwori led the opening prayers at the meeting on the instruction of Vice President Shettima.
Other state governors present included Rev. Fr. Hycinth Alia of Benue State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, and Bassey Otu of Cross River, along with several deputy governors.
