NDLEA Bursts Drug Gang, Seizes N.5bn Meth At MMIA
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a huge chunk of methamphetamine concealed in powdered custard containers as part of a consolidated cargo going to London, United Kingdom (UK).
The seizure of the illicit drug consignment weighing 30.10 kilograms with a street value of N567 million, was at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos.
The anti-drug agency made the disclosure in a media statement at its verified official Tweeter handle @ndlea_nigeria, on Sunday.
In the statement, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said the seizure was detected by NDLEA operatives at the MMIA on Tuesday, May 16.
He added that the drug baron behind the shipment, Charles Chinedu Ezeh and the freight agent, Nwobodo Chidiebere have been apprehended.
He said, “Ezeh claims he’s a businessman and deals in articles in Onitsha, Anambra State, but investigations reveal he lived with his wife and children in London until 10th December 2022, when he fled to Nigeria after his involvement in a drug related offense in the UK.
“Though he claimed to have been living in hotels since his return to Nigeria in December, operatives were however able to locate his mansion at No. 1 Hawawu Abikan Street, Lekki on Friday 19th May, where a search was conducted and his travel and property documents among others were recovered.”
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa has commended the officers and men for their professionalism and speed with which they were able to track and arrest another drug kingpin, Ezeh.
Nigerian social media influencer, VeryDarkMan, has been released from police custody just hours after being arrested.
The arrest followed his recent exposé on an alleged fraudster, which had garnered significant attention and controversy.
VeryDarkMan, known for his fearless reporting and investigative work on social media, had published a series of posts detailing the activities of an individual he claimed was involved in extensive fraudulent schemes.
The exposé quickly went viral, attracting both support and criticism from various quarters.
Early this morning, police officials detained VeryDarkMan at his residence in Lagos, citing concerns over the veracity and impact of his allegations.
The arrest prompted an outpouring of support from his followers and fellow activists, who took to social media to demand his immediate release, using the hashtag #FreeVeryDarkMan.
The police have yet to provide detailed reasons for the arrest or any charges against VeryDarkMan.
As the situation develops, many are calling for a transparent investigation into both the claims made by VeryDarkMan and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on orders from Police Commissioner Igwe of the Federal Capital Territory Command.
According to activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan was being detained for allegedly exposing an individual involved in defrauding a Nigerian abroad.
Adeyanju criticized the Police for opting to arrest VeryDarkMan for defamation instead of pursuing the alleged fraudster.
He stated, “Our client, @thatverydarkman has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad. Instead of the police to arrest the person alleged to have duped someone, they arrested VDM on allegation of defamation.”
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of eight individuals, including a female suicide bomber and her baby, following an explosion at Mararraba ‘T’ Junction in Gwoza local government area.
Fifteen others were injured in the blast.
The incident occurred on Saturday, as reported by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.
According to Daso, the female suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) wrapped with her baby at the busy junction, resulting in the casualties.
He said “The suicide bomber wrapped a baby on her back with the IED and detonated it when people were accessing the popular Mararaba ‘T’ Junction on Saturday in Gwoza town on Saturday, the 29 of June.
“Eight persons, including the suicide bomber and the baby died while 15 others sustained various degrees of injuries.”
