NFF Under Fire As Reps Probe Misuse Of FIFA, CAF Grants
…Lawmakers decry poor accountability in football funding
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has come under intense scrutiny as the House of Representatives begins an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of grants received from the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The decision followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Adedayo Samuel Adesola and co-sponsored by Hon. Nwaeke Felix Uche during Tuesday’s plenary session in Abuja.

Presenting the motion, Adesola expressed deep concern over the “persistent financial irregularities” in the football governing body, despite the steady inflow of millions of dollars from FIFA and CAF meant to support grassroots football development, training, and infrastructure across the country.
He noted that despite several grants and sponsorships, Nigeria’s football infrastructure has remained underdeveloped, while administrative controversies continue to plague the NFF.
“The House cannot overlook the poor state of football infrastructure and the allegations of mismanagement surrounding the federation. We must ensure that every grant received is used for its intended purpose,” Adesola stated.
Lawmakers also referenced previous audits and public outcry over NFF’s handling of funds, including FIFA’s 2016 audit, which raised questions about the federation’s accountability and transparency.
Following deliberations, the House resolved to set up a special investigative committee to review all FIFA and CAF grants received by the NFF from 2015 to 2025. The committee will also summon NFF officials to provide detailed financial records and evidence of how the funds were spent.
The lawmakers stressed the need for transparency and fiscal discipline to rebuild public trust in the administration of Nigerian football.
