Obasanjo Prescribes Good Governance To Ensure Peace In Africa
Elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been preaching good governance as a panacea for peace in Africa.
In the midst of looming #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria, the former president has cautioned that unless African leaders weaned themselves of greed, and looked more to the needs of the youths, the impoverished citizens would rise up in a way never seen before.
Biztellers reports that the looming mass action in Nigeria is coming shortly after the people of Kenya rose up against their elected government, recording a level of success that has given rise to immediate reforms in that country.
In a viral video clip, Chief Obasanjo was heard warning that the anger of the youth was being fueled by the offensive opulence of those in authority, which they can discern was from the commonwealth of the nation.

Chief Obasanjo said, “If you have nothing to gain. You are jobless. You’re not empowered. You are in poverty. And then you see your leaders, some of them in obscene opulence. Then, what do you do?
“You are a human being. And the resources of your country is provided for that country by God for the benefits of all the citizens of that country.”
When the television host reminded him that, in 2011 when the Arab Spring was spreading across North Africa, he predicted that there might be African winter.
“It’s the beginning and if no adequate attention is paid to the needs of the youths in Africa, the autumn would turn to winter, and it would be very ugly for all us,” Chief Obasanjo added.
Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, faced a delay at Polling Unit 3 in Okaegben Ward One, Ewohimi Local Government Area of Edo State, as officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were not present on Saturday morning.
The absence was due to heavy rainfall in the area.
Voters began to gather around 9:26 AM, waiting for INEC officials and voting materials.

However, at 10:30 AM, officials had started to arrive, and the PDP candidate followed shortly after.
Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), cast his vote today at polling unit 1, Ward 2, at Udomi Primary School in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
After voting, Okpebholo commended the electoral officials for their effective coordination and efficiency, noting that the process in his ward was particularly well managed.

To ensure a peaceful election, security personnel were deployed at the polling center.
Reports indicate that electoral officers and materials arrived on time, facilitating a prompt start to the voting process.
Today’s gubernatorial election in Edo State is significant, with over 2.2 million permanent voter cards collected by eligible voters.
Voters in Ward 7, Unit 39 of Ugbekun, Edo State, were left frustrated on election day as the BIVAS machine malfunctioned, halting the voting process.
With 839 registered voters waiting at the polling unit, election officials confirmed that a replacement machine would be provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Officials also expressed optimism that voting hours would be extended to accommodate the delay.

Friday Aiwekhoe, a senior citizen, criticized the situation, calling it unacceptable given INEC’s preparation.
He suggested that the malfunction could be politically motivated, potentially aiming to disenfranchise voters in the area.
INEC has yet to comment on the cause of the BIVAS failure.
